I just got this e-mail from Amazon.co.uk. I'm on their e-mailing list because I've bought a couple of Hollies import CDs from them in the past (import CDs to me, that is - you UK folks would consider them domestic releases). This Manfred Mann release is four discs, and at the bottom of the e-mail message from Amazon, I've listed the track listings. Here's the message:

Great music from a great band. But I'm a bigger fan of their Fontana Years 1966-1969. My favourite Manfred Mann song is "Fox On The Run". I like the chorus and Mike D'Abo's soulful voice on the song.

I agree; I prefer their more arty period with D'Abo. But the Paul Jones era had a lot of raw energy. Looks like some unreleased tracks are on this new set.

Manfred Mann:

Manfred/Hollies "Links" :
Mike Vickers (Manfreds guitarist/flute/sax player 1963 - 1966) went on to become a top arranger....beginning with The Hollies in 1966 on "For Certain Because..." plus "Evolution" tracks and "Blowin' in the Wind" etc...

Beatles pal (and "Revolver" cover artist) Klaus Voormann took over from Mike Vickers' brief replacement Jack Bruce (who had played Bass for The Hollies on "After The Fox"...and after playing on "Pretty Flamingo" left to form Cream ....) in the Manfreds in 1966 playing Bass guitar as Tom McGuinness had switched from Bass guitar (1963-66) to Lead guitar for "Pretty Flamingo" onwards...

Klaus had stood in for Eric Haydock with The Hollies for BBC Radio sessions plus a memorable "Sunday night at the London Palladium" TV show appearance....

The Hollies then wanted Klaus as a permanent replacement for Eric....but Manfred made him a better offer....!

I will have to get myself a copy of that Cd set. There are a lot of songs on that set that I have never heard before.

Manfred Mann are one of my all time favourite band and I love both eras of the band with Paul Jones and then Mike D'Abo. My favourite Mann Mann songs are Do Wah Diddy Diddy (with Paul Jones) and Fox On The Run (with Mike D'Abo).

I saw The Manfreds (as they call themselves these days) about 6 times between 1995 and 2002 and they were absolutely brilliant. Both Paul and Mike were there together and took it in turns to sing lead.

Susie
