I'm on the Lowry's mailing list and have just received this email:

"Vote online for your favourite Northern icons, from Victoria Wood to Yorkshire pud...

The Myth of the North – our exhibition celebrating all things Northern - has been inviting gallery visitors to nominate their favourite Northern people, places, food, TV and musicians - with the most popular being displayed on a specially created Wall of Fame within the exhibition.

Now we're asking you to vote via our online poll at http://www.thelowry.com/vote so you can have your say even if you can't see the exhibition.

A shortlist has been created from the most popular votes already cast inside the gallery, so see for yourself who is in the lead so far once you've cast your own verdict in each category."

If you click on Rock Bands, you will see the Hollies are on the shortlist.

Thanks for the input. I thought I was on the Lowry list, too, but haven't seen this. Just voted.
We are way behind Beatles and Oasis and still behind a couple of other unknown acts. Come on folks!

Although I'm an equal big fan of The Beatles as of The Hollies I gave The Hollies my vote. I don't think The Beatles need my vote but The Hollies might need it. At least The Hollies should beat Oasis. I don't think that Oasis is a band as good as The Hollies.

I've voted for the Hollies too, three days in a row now.
Keep on voting!

As George Harrison was quoted, he called Oasis "rubbish". I agree.

Oasis is awful. Instead of focusing on singing and performing, they were more concerned with beating up one another on stage. George only scratched the surface when he called the rubbish.

The Beatles and the Hollies are lightyears above Oasis in terms of talent, personality, and appeal. There's no question about that.

Of course, in a popularity poll, the groups with the biggest record sales are likely to come out on top.

And since Oasis became big, I'm sure that they've sold a lot more copies of records during that time than the Hollies have.

Of course, that may have something to do with the fact that the Hollies have only released one album of original material during that time, eh?

Yes, Sparty, that might have something to do with it. However, I just looked at that poll, again, and some group named the Smiths have got 38% of the votes, even more than the Beatles. Who are the Smiths?

They are a pretty influential 80s band - one of the first so called indie rock bands. Morrissey is their lead singer who still releases good records these days and also plays live.

That is only your opinion but to call people nitwits is rather rude. By all means use constructive criticism, but if someone had called us nitwits for voting for The Hollies there would be an outcry.

I don't like their attitude but they have performed some great songs which I like.

That's the joy of music, everyone has different tastes.

I agree chig. They were one of the bands at the forefront of the return to guitar-based music in the mid-90's after years of barren dance crap. The first two albums were excellent, and the later ones have had some good moments too (I was listening to Don't Believe The Truth today!).

When I first heard about Oasis, I liked them, but when I read about them fighting with each other on stage, and read some of Liam Gallagher's interviews where he swore like a sailor, they were crossed off my hit parade.

Yeah, as personalities they are idiots to say the least although I think they have mellowed a bit and initially a lot was hype.
