Here's another great photo and article from Fabulous magazine. This is from the October 17, 1964 issue. Each issue would have a different theme, and this one was about voting. There was a general election going on in Britian in 1964, and as most of Fabulous's readers were under 21 at the time, they couldn't vote, so Fabulous had their own election with the popular music stars of the time running for various offices. In the accompanying article, the Hollies talk about how Fabulous gets their vote as their favorite music magazine. The photo is stunning, taken in front of the Parliament building.

Priceless, James! Allan, Graham, Eric, and Bobby would have been old enough to vote in 1964, so I wonder if they swayed towards the Conservative side! It makes you wonder what the Young Labourers (is that what they're called?) might have looked like. ... Wink

You're welcome for all the photos I posted. Very Happy

Young Labourers (is that what they're called?)

Nope, that's those who leave school with no qualifications and work on a building site! Laughing Is there actually a junior branch of the Labour party here? Probably called 'Progressive Tories' or something similar... Laughing

What a great photo of all of them. I really dig Tony's and Graham's hair! Thanks, Vrinda; your memorabilia collection is top-notch!

Thanks, Sue! I like Tony and Graham's hair, too! It must have been a windy day when that photo was taken! My memorabilia collection is just starting to grow. Stay tuned for more great stuff. ... Wink

Eric Haydock looks the hippest of all of them. Bobby Elliott needs a hat or a wig, one or the other. I never liked those Elvis-style pompoudors that Nash and Hicks sported in 1964. I wonder why they did that?

You got to love their boots. They were called Cuban heels, right? I like a suit and tie on a man, and those '60s-style suits were sexy. The Elvis-style pompadour looks a little out of date for 1964, but maybe they wore them because it would remind people of Elvis and make them think that Tony and Graham were just as good rockers as he. Bobby's hair looks nice for the time. He's a real honey blonde. This is before his hair started to thin, so there was no dire need for him to wear a hat or a whig like there was later on.

Thanks, Alan! Thank you to all who posted. Now, I have a question for you: What do you think Bobby is holding in his hand? I guessed it might be either a giant stapler or a water pistol. (To soak the MPs when they're outside the Parliament building!) What are your thoughts?

It is a rattle.

Made of wood, they make a ratcheting noise and were mainly used by football supporters etc until the late 60s when they seem to have disappeared.

I think they were replace by knuckle dusters and knives!!
