Today I received a new music compilation DVD with a Hollies song on it:

"He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother"

I haven't seen this video clip before. I presume it's from an American TV-Show. The Hollies play live in the studio.

Another nice piece for my collection Smile

The DVD is called: Rock and Roll Goldmine.

It has been released in the UK on the 11th of october 2004.

20 DVD's are released in Holland because 40 years ago the Dutch Top 40 started. Each DVD contains 20 tracks of hits in two years. Some of them have Hollies videoclips on it:

1965-1966: I'm Alive (Rooster 27-01-1966)

1969-1970: Blowing in the Wind (April Film)

1973-1974: The Day that Curly Billy Shot Down Crazy Sam McGee (their only Nr. 1 hit in Holland) Top of the Pops 27-09-1973)

Dear Ro-Robert.
Can you give me the details of these Dutch releases? Do you think I can order them from Plato, for instance?
Thanks!

The DVD's are called: 40 Jaar Top 40 (followed by the years)
They are released by three Major Music Labels: Sony Music, EMI and Universal Music.
Each of them distribute a part of the releases: Sony: 6, EMI: 6, Universal Music: 8 DVD's

Plato should have them, but I could not find them on their site.

As you live in Norway, why don't you try Free Record Shop?

Good luck!

Thanks, Ro-Robert,
I now have ordered one of them from Plato, the other two from Free Record Shop. Very good!
I really look forward to seeing those clips. I fear I have them on VHS, but it will be worth it anyway.

Good news that the Hollies may produce a live in concert DVD this year. (Haven't we heard that one before, by the way? Oh, let's still hope.)

Some Hollies home made TV clips collections on DVD are starting to appear, I just bought myself a DVD burner and the new Nero reloaded software upgraded with Nero vision express 3, to record my Hollies TV clips onto DVD. I believe we have to be content with such compilations so far.

Dear Ro-Robert!

I just read in Record Collector that there is a sampler from the 40 Jaar series, featuring Gasoline Alley bred, called 40 Jaar Top 40 Tip Parade. I've tried to get it through the BR Music website, where it is shown, but I am redirected to ECI who do not list it. Can you help me? By the way, I now have learnt how to burn DVDRs from Varoious artists DVDs, so I have made my first all Hollies DVD collection. If the guys do not release the compilations we need, we just have to make them ourselves.

Knut,

Unfair question maybe but...

... could you list the clips that have appeared on DVD there so far? and are any of them live?

I'm just curious to know if there is anything there that I don't already have.

Dear MichealC!
I've written a feature to Hollies Carousel on this, hopefully it appears in the next issue. if they find this topic of any interest. Anyway, I can post a list here, when I get home, right now I am at my cabin in the forest, outside Oslo.
Yours, Knut

I'm not sure if it's mentioned before, but I just discovered a video clip on a DVD I just received: Look Through Any Window. It's on a DVD called 'Sixties Rock'. Released in the UK by Passport Video (DVD-1575). It's the video with the Rugby cardboards.

Hi Robert,
That clip is from Hullabloo, an American TV show. Has it got the into with Frankie Avalon?

No, there are no intro's. I liked all the clips though. I think a lot of them were live in the studio (Searchers, Moody Blues, Yardbirds, Animals). In one clip I noticed the name 'Hullabaloo' against the wall with Brian Epstein sitting next to it.

Another compilation-DVD with a Hollies song: Typisch Zestig! (in English: Typical Sixties). It contains the Beat-Club clip of Sorry Suzanne. It was released on May 24th 2004.

In total the DVD has 20 video clips. Among them are two Dutch Sixties bands (Golden Earring, Shocking Blue). Also: Adamo, Tremeloes, Kinks, Herd, Easybeats etc.

It was released by Sony Music Media (Holland) Cat. No. : 2024679
