Hi All
I was with my Dad in his car today when the song Blowin' In The Wind came on the radio - the radio annoucer said it was Peter Paul and Mary. Anyway I told Dad that The Hollies and Bob Dylan sang that song, I always thought that Bob wrote the song but Dad insists that Peter Paul and Mary wrote it and had the original version. Can anyone tell me who wrote Blowin' In The Wind and who recorded it first Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Susie,
On The Hollies Dylan album all the songs were written by Bob Dylan.

Hi Susie,
After digging around on the internet : "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blowin'_in_the_Wind"
it would appear Bob Dylan wrote the song in April 1962 but Peter, Paul and Mary charted with the song first, a few months before Dylan, possibly causing the confusion....
Of course, this assumes Wikipedia is accurate!

I'm pretty sure that "Blowin' In The Wind" is a Dylan tune. |

Yes, it was written by Dylan, who, despite Carl's joking on-stage references to "Birmingham Bob" or "Bristol Bob" (depending on where The Hollies were playing on a given night) was actually a native of my home state of Minnesota. In fact, Dylan used to babysit a former college roomate of mine when he lived near the University of Minnesota, and was getting his musical chops together.
In 1963, Peter, Paul and Mary released the album "In the Wind" which contained several Dylan covers. And, you just might spot a few other familiar tunes in the track list:
1. Very Last Day
2. Hush-A-Bye
3. Long Chain On
4. Rocky Road
5. Tell It On The Mountain
6. Polly Von
7. Stewball
8. All My Trials
9. Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
10. Freight Train
11. Quit Your Low Down Ways
12. Blowin' In The Wind |

Is Hush-a-bye a cover of the Beach Boys harmoney number? I can hardly imagine PP&M doing that song. |

The Beach Boys actually covered "Hush-A-Bye", which was first recorded by a New York doo-wop group called the Mystics in 1957...uh-oh I'm dating myself... |

Thanks for your info guys, I thought it was Bob Dylan who wrote Blowin' In The Wind but I wasn't really sure.
Thanks again.
