OK, I'll go first. My Hollies concert experiences:

1972 with Hicks, Sylvester, Rickfors, Elliott, Calvert - one show, Santa Monica, CA
1975 with Hicks, Sylvester, Clarke, Elliott, Calvert - one show (Roxy in Hollywood, CA)
1983 with Hicks, Nash, Clarke, and Elliott - 3 shows; 2 at the same venue, the same night (The Bottom Line, New York City) and the last in upstate New York (Saratoga Springs).
Total shows: 5
I wanted to see the Carl Wayne lineup, especially one of the European shows when they performed "The Baby".

Who saw them live in the '60s?

Well, I feel inadequate here:

2006: Hicks, Elliot, Howarth, Stiles, Lauri and Parker

Limerick: A very, good entertaining show.

Dublin: A more entertaining show with a lot more excitment from the audience but then again I was drunk!

2002 - with Wayne, Hicks, Elliott, Coates, Stiles and Parker - 1 good soundcheck (concert itself was rained out, but I met Carl, Tony and Bob!) in Stillwater, Minnesota, and 3 shows - Kearney, Nebraska; Cohasset, Massachusetts; and Uncasville, Connecticut.
2003 - with Wayne, Hicks, Elliott, Coates, Stiles and Parker - 4 shows - Baden Baden, Germany; Manchester, England; Wolverhampton, England; and Bristol, England.
2004 - with Wayne, Hicks, Elliott, Coates, Stiles and Parker - 3 shows - Wisley, England; Berlin, Germany; and Heppenheim, Germany.

Dennis - The Baby was GREAT, between Carl's vocal and Tony's sitar work!!

1998 and 1999: Clarke/Hicks/Elliott/Coates/Parker/Stiles (both Glasgow)
2003: Wayne/Hicks/Elliott/Coates/Parker/Stiles (Glasgow and Stirling)
2006: Howarth/Hicks/Elliott/Lauri/Parker/Stiles (Ayr).

The '98 and '03 shows were the best by a long shot. Really enjoyed the Stirling gig, Carl's banter and a nice hall (albeit crap seating) were class.

I saw the Hollies live for the first time in early 1967 in a package tour together with The Spencer Davies Group, Tremeloes and Paul Jones.
The line up was Clarke, Nash, Hicks, Calvert and a stand-in drummer. Bobby Elliott was in hospital with appendicitis at that time!

I'm sure it was. Carl's voice, being closer to Mikael Rickfors' than Allan Clarke's, I'm sure was well-suited to "The Baby", one of The Hollies' greatest singles. Would have loved to have heard Tony's sitar as well. Were any Carl Wayne shows recorded? From what I've heard, this lineup was excellent. I missed seeing one of the 2002 USA shows, but anyway "The Baby" was not in the set list.

Yes I have spent a fair chunk of my time watching this Band in concert !

Indeed. I saw The Kinks many times in the '70s, when they toured the US incessantly. At one show, The Pretty Things opened for them and, frankly, were much better. This was 1976, when the "Silk Torpedo" LP was getting attention here.

See with all these folk who have seen the band umpteen times in the 60's - 90's and trying their best to make us young(ish) things jealous, could we maybe start up another thread where set lists could be, er, listed? Wink The songs needn't be in the correct order, but maybe just some highlights, rarities would be nice to read about. Very Happy

That's a real shame, Tony.

I think you're missing out on what is still a great band.

I still get the same buzz from going to a Hollies concert as I did from my first one exactly 40 years ago, and I must have been to well over a hundred concerts in those 40 years.

Give them another try in 2007!
