The Hollies :: View topic - Non-Hollies music? What are your favorites?

Excluding the lads (and similar incarnations like The Move, CSN, Allan's solo albums, and whatnot), what/who are your favorite recording artists?

Let's limit this so that we exclude classical music, opera, and suchlike.

I'm picking my favorites based more or less on how much I listen to them and by how many albums of that artist I own.

So, here goes nuthin'.

1. Badfinger (the closest thing we had to the Beatles' music in the 1970's)
2. Beatles (C'mon, now, who could be better?)
3. Alison Krauss & Union Station (I regularly need my bluegrass fix)

No one else really comes close as I look at my list of discs.

Honorable mention goes to the Rolling Stones (pre-Ronny Wood), Beach Boys (pre-Kokomo), the Monkees (my guilty pleasure), and the Who (best live band ever?).

1,Well the Beatles were and still are the Greatest
2,The Seekers were fantastic, great songs
3,Queen, Freddie just had a brilliant voice and what a showman.
4,Fleetwood Mac, had some wonderful songs and Albums over the years.
5,Cliff Richard, great in concert, loved his 70's and 80's years the best.
6,The Monkees,Some great pop songs, daydream believer has to be one of the greatest songs from the 60's plus I grew up with the group on the telly.
7,I like a lot of John Denver's songs, they just paint a picture.
8,AC/DC, great Rock"N"Roll
9,The Stones, what showmen, some of the best music to get you singing along.
10,Kiss, only really like the hits but what a show, saw them last year and it was one of the best shows I have ever seen.

Special mention to Herman's Hermits, Gerry and the Pacemakes and to so many of the great 60's groups

There are probably a lot of songs I like, but not devoted to the artist, like the Faith Hill one in Pearl Harbour and the Steve Tyler one (can't remember his group), can't quite remember the name of the song, but I think it was in a Bruce Wilis film, it's too early for me to sit and think hard Confused

I generally like guitar bands, the seed having been set by hearing the Hollies. In recent years I have also developed an appreciation of the blues.

Cheap Trick (Robin Zander has one of the greatest pop/rock voices I have heard)

Foo Fighters (my children are amazed)
Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green era)

I too enjoy some John Denver (the early stuff) and Leo Sayer. I have also started collecting Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins and Keb Mo among a variety of past & present blues artists. One or two Hollies tunes have a blues influence. I would love to hear Tony Hicks play the blues.

Apart from the Hollies, another big thing for me must be fellow Mancunian act 10cc whilst I also consider Eric Stewart's earlier roots in the Mindbenders of interest. Apart from the Hollies, Beatles, Move and Mindbenders my other favourite sixties acts are probably the American harmonisers Simon and Garfunkel and the Mamas and Papas.
Moving into the 1970s (I don't follow much post-1980 music) I had a weakness for several Glam Rock acts including Mud, Wizzard and Slade, also slightly more serious stuff a la 10cc and ELO while, by the decade's end, had become a serious Blondie convert.
