Don't get me wrong, I love the Monkees.

But do they really qualify as a band?

And who are "the Seeds" and "Stories"?

The Seeds? "You're pushing to hard, pushing too hard, on me....waaaaaah".

Stories? "Louie, Louie, Lou-eye". Michael Brown's band (although he left pretty quickly) after The Left Banke, of "Pretty Ballerina" and "Walk Away Renee" fame.

As for the Monkees, their live 1967 CD showed they could put together a credible show and play their instruments. Peter and Mike were musicians before the band was pre-fabricated, and actors Mickey and Davy sort of learned...

VERY difficult to narrow down to three, the above would probably change as often as the weather!

Hi all, okay it's my turn:

UK 60's

1st Beatles / Greatest group in history
2....Stones / had the Hits world wide great showmen
3....Hollies / not a bad little band

USA 60's

1......The Monkees.....
2......Beachboys
3.......The Supremes

Australia 60's

1...... Easybeats
2.......Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs
3.......The Seekers

I'm not all that big on the 70's

UK 70's

1.......The Hollies
2........Cliff Richard
3........Queen

USA 70's

1.......Simon & Garfunkel
2.......Elvis
3...... sorry I can't think of one at the moment

Sorry to The Who, Mamas & Papas The 4 seasons and many more. I put in the Monkees because they were a fun group and had some brilliant songs, Daydream believer has to be one of the best songs in history, everytime I hear it I just want to sing along.

The Seeds were nothing short of a phenomenon here in Southern California during 1966-7. Lots of radio play, screaming fans at their concerts. Their radio hits: Pushin' Too Hard, Mr. Farmer, Can't Seem to Make You Mine, Tripmaker. Highly influential; Jim Morrison stood at the edge of the stage at one of their concerts and said "God, I'll never be as good as that." And he was right...Lead singer Sky "Sunlight" Saxon carries the legend today, with an upcoming show here in Hollywood next month. I'll be there.

Stories' 3 albums are stellar. Forget "Brother Louie"; they were, first and foremost, one of the prime Power pop bands of the early '70s. A great discovery for Hollies fans, if unfamiliar with them.

The Monkees' proved their worth. Great tunes.

UK 60's
Hollies
Kaleidoscope
Zombies

...it's difficult to name only three

the rest of the world (USA is not the only alternative...)
Tages (Sweden)
Motions (Netherlands)
Choir (USA)

I don't like the 70's so much, I know just a few songs by the Hollies from the decade and things like ABBA Sad
There were many more known and unknown artist in the 60's all over the world and I love to explore this world of music... It isn't and won't be boring Wink

That's strange SheLenka,

I have Hollies, Kaleidoscope and Zombies also on my top 20. I've made a special Kaleidoscope page too.
I've never seen the Zombies live, but hope to during the next year.

Thanks for the link, Knut, very interesting!!!
Unfortunately, I've never seen any of them live. But I've heard Zombies live on radio from the last year's Mike Smith Benefit Concert and I was amazed how they sounded - Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent seem to have changed only physicaly, but not vocally! There may be a DVD released of the Benefit concert, it was planned but I'm not sure it has been released.

I am very sad I couldn't go to Dalhalla, I was in Norway at the time. But I am dreaming of going to some Hollies concert next year. I hope it comes true.

Hi again SheLenka!

Thanks for your comments. The Zombies have a great DVD out, so far. If you haven't got it, you MUST lay your hands on it. Just fabulous. I got mine from Holland, but now it's out in the UK, too.

Hi Knut!
Thanks for the tip! Is it the As Far As I Can See DVD? I haven't heard of it but now that you've mentioned it I tried to look it up.

I've sent you an e-mail about your website but I'm not sure whether you have received it, the domain I use is sometimes detected as unreliable source and blocked.

Hi Lenka, I've got your mail. I'll reply to it soon. But you raised a few questions I have to check out.
You should really try to get to a Hollies show during 2007, you'll never regret it!
