Can someone provide more or less accurate dates as to the following:

1. Allan last performs as a member of the band.

2. Carl joins the group

3. "How Do I Survive" recorded in the studio

4. Carl last performs with the group

5. Peter joins the group

6. Any other date that might be of interest related to lead vocalists in the last ten to fifteen years.

And, two somewhat related questions:

a. Are there any Carl Wayne-sung Hollies songs in the can that have not been released?

b. Were the Hollies with Carl as part of the group ever professionally recorded in concert, so that the possibility of a concert CD with that lineup exists?

I can only answer the question concerning the recording date of "How Do I Survive". It was on 1st and 2nd February 2003 and as far as the Sessionography of the "The Long Road Home" Box set goes they have recorded nothing else in the studio.

Peter joining was announced on 21st September 2004. Allan's retirement was announced on 2nd Feb 2000. Both of these are mentioned in the news archive on the main site.

We can but hope but I doubt anything like this will ever be officially released Rolling Eyes

I can't be 100% sure, but I think Allan's last concert was at Hanley on Nov 27th 1999 and Carl made his first appearance at the Daimler Chrysler concert on Jul 7th 2000.
I do know I saw him on Oct 8th 2000 at Brighton (first tour date in Autumn 2000) but his first UK appearance may have been in a concert in Jul 2000 at Ipswich.

Cheers,
Chirpy

I'd settle for "unofficially."

Correct Chirpy, 27th November, 1999 was Allan's last concert at Hanley, Stoke although, as KP says, the announcement of his retirement did not come until Feb 2000

Carl's first gig, was actually a private event on the Isle Of White on the 16th June 2000. It was an open air birthday party for a businessman. See Pic.

His last gig was on Saturday 10th July at Egersund in Norway.

Peter's first gig was in Munster, Germany on 2nd October, 2004

The show at Milton Keynes on the 29th October 2000 was recorded on video but has never been released.

Now, THAT'S the kind of information that I was hoping to get. It's great when everything is written down in one place. So, Carl's active participation with the Hollies lasted almost exactly four years, then? (June 2000 through July 2004)

Does this mean that from December 1999 through May 2000, the Hollies were essentially inactive?

Thanks for the reply, Rob.

Yes it does. The Tour page on the site is accurate but may not include private functions, corporate shows etc. There were none of these during the dates mentioned.

Is this for real Rob? I've just looked at the tour section and see no mention for the 17th you are a lucky bugger! (oops can I say that on here?)

I'm sure we'd all love a private show by The Hollies, now what is it we have to do again to get that privalige? Wink

I did hear that a concert with Carl had been filmed but for some reason wasn't released and as Carl is no longer with them it probably won't be released.

A concert DVD/VHS or a live album would be good.

Since the band doesn't look back to archival material with much fondness, I wouldn't count on a Carl Wayne concert surfacing. We can't even get a full concert from their '63-'74 hit period.
