Do you want to hear Tony sing the lead vocal in concert on at least one song?
Yes, I want to hear Tony on lead vocals. He's a great guitarist, but let's hear the singing, too!

I have heard Tony sing in concert (where he sings Too Young To Be Married) and on records ('B' sides and Album tracks as well as the second verse of Carrieanne) and he has a great voice so therefore I voted YES to the above question. Very Happy

Susie

I voted YES because Tony has a fantastic voice and he should have more opportunities to prove it.

In 80's concerts Tony Hicks sang a terrific version of the old McGuiness Flint 1970 Hit "When I'm Dead & Gone" with Allan Clarke featured on Harmonica and Tony on Banjo, plus Alan Coates on Acoustic Guitar and High Harmony vocal...it was really great (Phil Everly had done a nice version on his Capitol solo album around that time, maybe giving Tony & the lads the idea...)

Tony Hicks also sings "verse two" of "Open Up Your Eyes" (1968) which goes:

"Bald headed Banker with Bowler on head, credit for debit, but still in the red...Schoolgirl in pigtails and frecklely nose....tryin' to remember her latin prose..."

Like on "Monkey Business" and "Carrie Anne" Allan Tony and Graham take alternate verses Lead Vocals each.

Though it may be a while before I ever go to a Hollies concert, I vote yes for hearing Tony sing lead vocals. I read on the back of the "In the Hollies Style" album that Tony likes singing, and was always complaining that his features are always on guitar, so if anyone were to see him around after hearing him sing his part on "Too Much Moneky Business," to tell him they liked it. If he sings more lead vocals now, we can tell him we liked it! Very Happy

Although Ron Richards notes to "In The Hollies Style" DO indeed state Tony loves singing...I think Mr. Hicks is rather modest about his Lead vocal abilities...like Bobby Elliott also is re his songwriting abilities too !

I suspect Tony was originally "talked into" singing along...probably by Graham,
Tony has said that he joined purely as Lead Guitarist and early on tended to sing along "a bit with Allan...a bit with Graham..."

I was always hoping TH would put out some solo guitar
albums (yes ,plural) some rocking instrumentals
some thoughtful slower pieces and basically just
let it all hang out .And maybe ,just maybe some
of the pickers of the world would
realise what we have known all along.

Tony Hicks rules !!! Shocked

Wink

I have voted "Yes" also, his verse in the song Carrie Anne really brings out his cool accent! It would be nice to hear his voice more often, it's a comforting voice for me, reminds me of home! Very Happy

Yes I would definately like to see and hear Tony Hicks singing lead vocals occasionally.I think his vocals on I Was Born A Man off Out On The Road are the best he has ever done.He has a distinctive voice which i find very attractive and would love to hear him sing this number in concert. So it is a YES from me.

Carrie Anne.

Just a guess( because surely I do not know)
if Tony, thought it was in the best interest of the
band to sing lead vocals , he would.

Now in response to the theme of this thread.
I would vote yes. Adding I am quite biased. Mr. Green

if not ...
Blond haired, good looking, trying to get me hooked....
will do just fine. I'm very easy to get along with.

I would also vote yes, to being able to see/hear
The Hollies(at least ) one more time before
I expire(and no I'm not sick that I know of)
just so I could hear what I voted for. Wink

sorry , I hope that last part doesn't sound too selfish.

Embarassed

Ahhh ..... have I missed something? I always thought that it was Allan Clake who sang "Look At Life" it certainly has always sounded like his voice on this track. The song was written by Sylvester and Clarke. If it is not Allan singing this song, could some one please clear this up for me. Also this track was from the album "Hollies Sing The Hollies".
Cheers Ray

It's definitely Tony Hicks, Ray. His best vocal performances on record IMHO are Born A Man and Hillsborough. Cool ...Pegasus Shocked Shocked Crying or Very sad Nooooo! Laughing

I love "Pegasus". It is a fanciful, charming track.

I LOVE Pegasus too, and especially cause it's sung by Tony. I LOVE his voice! He still sounds as sweet today as he did 30 years ago. Please Tony, sing for your adoring fans! Very Happy

I say "no" aesthetically, but "yes" as a tribute to him. If he was an unknown, then of course his voice would not be appreciated as a lead vocalist. (Well, not by the standards that we as discerning listeners of quality music would say --- by today's standards, then yep.)

Anyway, for the person that has not heard him as lead of "Long Dark Road":
