That is why I like The Hollies! |
They weren't that bad, Graham Nash only smoked pot like a chimney if reports are to be believed, slept with just about every female singer-songwriter in the early 70's and tripped on acid to produce one of his best songs 'Cathedral'. And we'll not even go into the incident flagged up in a music magazine a few years back about certain band members having plaster casts made of their genitalia (perhaps this inspired Nash's nickname of Willy The One-eyed Wonder Worm) |

Getting back on track does anyone know how many countries "Staying Power" has been released in and how it has done?
I know that Dennis said it had not been released in the states.
Are The Hollies popular in the states?
Has it been released in Sweden or Germany or are people exporting their copies!!
The copies certainly seemed to be selling at the concerts!!
It would be interesting to know if they had a chart position. |

OK... back to a normal conversation
It's released in Germany and the record store in the town where I live even had four or five copies of it. I haven't looked if they sold though. |

I posed the question a while back about chart success - it certainly hasn't been in the Top 75 as I usually have a look just out of general interest at the charts each week. No information has been forthcoming from those in 'the know' - I suspect a placing maybe 100 - 150 ish |

Certainly, from my observations in major record chains up here in Scotland there seems to be at least five/six copies in each store, to the point of overstocking. I've not seen one bit of advertising in store, and only in my small independent record store has Staying Power been prominently placed in the new releases section. |

So the stores seem to have copies of the album but without any advertising so that other people apart from the real fans know about it, it won't sell well. I don't think there has been any marketing at all. |

To be honest, I was relatively impressed with the adverts for the album/tour which I encountered in the music press and in national newspapers, just seems that EMI did not follow it through for whatever reason.
It's such a shame when you consider the really great releases in the past, such as the 'At Abbey Road' series which was an absolute gem and yet received little publicity in the music press - after all, how many bands would have canned great material like 'Schoolgirl' and 'Samuel' only to dust them off decades later and add contemporary overdubs and release them for hard-core fans? It was moments like this which made being a Hollies collector really great. |
