I'm curious, does anyone know what steps an artist must take to have a new song released? Do they have any say in the matter or does the decision rest solely with the record company? It seems American Idol contestants such as Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, and Reuben Studdard have no problems in getting their songs into the charts. What can The Hollies learn from their success? Sorry for all the questions but I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this.

Actually, Holliesfan, I think I have read that nowadays you donīt make much money with singles anyway. And one certainly canīt compare Pop Idol with The Hollies. A single hit is certainly a sort of prestige but not much more. Albums make the money, I guess, and the Hollies werenīt too good at this anyway. Unfortunately....
I would really have hoped that Staying Power charted. But up to now I havenīt heard of this....

Your partially correct, however radio play does help to get the song out to listener's ears. In addition, it helps to further market the artist. I think the Hollies would opt to have their work heard on a wide scale and not worry about the money it would garner.
