How many of todays groups have still got their original members anyway?
The current Hollies line-up should be proud to call themselves The Hollies. |

Well said joannelaing.
I feel proud to be associated with a band that are HUMAN, they play and sing live, actually take the time and energy to stop and communicate with their fans after concerts and most importantly care about being in the band.
In my humble opinion that is the measure of a good band. |

Not very many, I am sure. But U2 for instance still consists of the original founder members who have been doing their job for nearly 30 years. |

I think trying to compare the Hollies to U2 is not recommended! |

I must admit it does seem to be an unusual pairing.

I think the big trouble now is - there is currently a band called the Hollies that is trying to pass themselves off as THE HOLLIES. |
Listening to "Staying Power", one could come to that conclusion. It all depends on how you feel about the songs. The majority of the tracks I can take or leave (mostly the latter, I'm afraid), but "Suspended Animation" is GREAT. It stands out from the pack; if only the rest of the album matched its excellence. I'm not totally dismissive of this new incarnation of The Hollies because at least they came up with one terrific track. That's more than can be said about most acts these days. |

Have you seen them live recently.
What did you think of the new show?
If you have attended some of the many shows over here, which the majority have been sold out, you will have had the opportunity to experience some incredible vocals.
Most of the new songs went down better then some of the older stuff, copies of the album were certainly flying off the stall selling them!
Eric Haydock should not be trading off the name of a band he was in 20 years ago.
I am sure he is a talented musician otherwise he wouldn't have played with the guys.
Is it not about time he set up under his own colours. |

You're covering a lot of ground here, but I'll respond.
I live in the USA, not one of The Hollies' frequent tour spots.
As for the album, the songs themselves are not ones I would want to listen to with any frequency. It is not an album to listen to all the way through and say, wow, that's a good album, I can't wait to hear those songs again. True to Hollies fashion, there are a few memorable choruses here and there, but they don't add up to anything substantial. The lack of a rock and roll vibe is what's missing. It sounds too much like 1980s commercial radio pop. The only track with any kind of edge is "Suspended Animation". I'm sold on this one.
Eric Haydock has every right to make a living as a musician. He was a member of The Hollies during the key British Invasion period. There is nothing wrong with him billing himself as "formerly of The Hollies", just like Terry Sylvester does. |

I agree with you entirely that he has every right to make his name as a musician, but from what has been said about him why keep trading off a band he left long ago.
Why not call it the Eric Haydock band or something similar and make a name for himself in his own right. I am sure people would pay to see him as they would know the name.
I understand your point about the guys not touring the states but if they ever do catch the new show, you will be pleasently surprised.
I stand by my previous observations though, the new songs certainly went down well during the tour and they did sell a cartload of albums. |

I agree with Carol they do a fantastic show, and the new songs go over really well. Any reservations I had about the band as it is today were simply washed away by the gigs. They are really good.

Terry still trades off a band he left "long ago" (25 years now), but nobody complains about him doing it. So Eric left the band 40 years ago; is there really any difference, besides a number?
Barring some miracle, I don't expect The Hollies to come to the US, especially since SP doesn't seem likely to get a US release. |

Dennis - check my reply to your comments on June 10th.
The Hollies are perfectly happy for him to perform as ex-Hollies or formerly of The Hollies but he continued to try and pass himself as The Hollies.
Surely it's time to put this subject to bed. |

Hi all,
Well U2 don't go back to 1963, most bands from the early 60's are lucky to still have one member left. I can understand that the Hollies have changed heaps over the years, this line up is a far cry from my favourite 70's Hollies. But in the end it's great for the fans to still go and hear the music, Tony did write and co write many of the hits so he is a true Hollie and Bobby he's the man.
Look at Sweet these days, only the bass player left, so really I think the Hollies are still going well.
It was not that long ago we had 3 Hollies still in the band from the early 60's. |
