Hi, I think you should start with the first album and not stop until you get to the end of the sixties (at least). You can't be disappointed. Enjoy it! Cool

It depends what Hollies era you have a preference for. I would suggest Evolution for the '60s and Distant Light for the seventies.

Best 1960s Hollies albums:
1. Evolution
2. Hollies (1965, with Very Last Day, etc.)
3. Would You Believe
4. Butterfly

Best 1970s Hollies albums:
1. Distant Light
2. Romany
3. Out on the Road
4. Hollies (1974, with The Air that I Breathe, etc.)

I agree with Michael and Dennis!

"Distant Light" is in my opinion the best of the '70s and "Evolution" the best of the '60s. "For Certain Because" is also great!

OK, after having heard some of your songs on the website I would suggest buying "Romany" and "Distant Light".

I've listened to the first two songs (So Much Harder Than..., Last Out The Dream) and on the second one I could see why someone compared you with them although that wouldn't have been my first impression.

But especially the second song sounds a bit like the Hollies with Mikael Rickfors (he only sings on the albums "Romany" and "Out On The Road"), so judging from it I think you could really like the albums I suggested to buy.

As I listen to Last Out The Dream" again at the moment I must say that it's a very good song! It has a good melody and strong singing with a good backing from the band.

hey thanks a lot for taking the time to listen to us, we really appreciate it! 'so much harder than emptiness' is more of a manic street preachers inspired rockout that we normally close our set on. but ace yeah, thanks!

I highly recommend Hollies 74 (which is the avater on the left in all my message), Another Night (from 1975), Write On (from 1976) and A Crazy Steal (from 1978). Very Happy

Best Wishes

Susie

Distant Light would be the one I would buy. Did you buy one and what do you think?

I'd suggest first getting a compilation album. Then if you like most of the songs on it (and who wouldn't love them?), then track down an album from whatever era your favorite songs from the greatest hits album come from.

For a single-disc compilation album, I'd suggest this beauty:

Label: EMI
Catalogue No. LP: ATAK 38
TC: TCAK 38
Release date: 01.Jul.1988

The Air That I Breathe
Carrie Anne
Bus Stop
Listen To Me
Look Through Any Window
I Can't Let Go
Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress
Here I Go Again
I Can't Tell The Bottom From The Top
I'm Alive
Yes I Will
Stay
Sorry Suzanne
Gasoline Alley Bred
We're Through
Jennifer Eccles
Stop Stop Stop
On A Carousel
Just One Look
He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

This lets you hear all the hits from 1964-1974, which was their most commerically successful era. Enjoy!

That one brings back fond memories - the first Hollies record I listened to ('cos my mother played it to death)! Love the cover too, the cooling towers of the industrial north of England against a sunset - says it all - beauty in unexpected places.
