I really agree with you on the Mike Batt songs, both of them are absolutely superb. I also like Soldier's Song albeit a little too OTT for a single release. The live version of this as performed by Carl Wayne was first class.
If The Lights Go Out is a modern sounding number for the times without being awash with synthesisers. Great track. There really is a difference in the rhythm section with Calvert versus Steve Stroud (?) who played on the What Goes Around version. Stroud's playing is much more robust and a more thundering bass line compared with Bernie's (it hurts me to say that!). |
