A quick question or two for the experts on here...
Apart from the 'Sings Dylan' & 'Buddy Holly' sets, has there ever been a Hollies album where all the songs were written by other people? Even 'Stay With...' has one original.
Also, which albums have been completely self-written? I believe the trio of 'For Certain Because', 'Evolution' & 'Butterfly' were, but what about the post-Nash years? |

What goes around was all covers, unless you count the Paul Bliss songs as Hollies originals, I believe he was a member of the group for a while.
I would guess Hollies sing Hollies was all originals. All tracks on Distant light have group input, (only long cool woman with any outside help)
All confessions of the mind was self written, mostly by Tony Hicks.
Russian Roulette, all by Clarke, Sylvester, Hicks
Another night, all except Sandy.
Hollies 74, all except Air that I breathe. |

5317704 comes close, but the song Satellite 3 is co-written by Allan Clarke. A very sophisticated album. |

5 of the tracks on "Distant Light" were Tony Hicks/Kenny Lynch songs |

"Out On The Road" is completely selfwritten, although some songs are credited to Hicks/Lynch but on every song a Hollies member had input and "Write On" has only one track by an outside writer on it ("There's Always Goodbye"). |

I'm curious why there was so much outside help for the 'numbers' album. This surprisesme, as I figured they stopped (more or less) composing after Terry Silvester left. |

The "calculator" album, as I call it, was supposed to be their comeback, with Clarke, and nearly got a US release, but was issued on Canadian Epic. It was started WITHOUT Clarke, hence Gary Brooker's vocal on "Harlequin". It's a pleasant album, with some good material, but was just too low-key for the time period, when punk and disco were all the rage. I guess they weren't inspired to write at the time, but Clarke's "Satellite 3" is a highlight of the LP for me. |
