Thought this may be of interest. The following guideline defines the criteria by which BBC Radio 2 determines their playlists. This can be found on the Radio 2 website.

**************************
HOW IS THE PLAYLIST SELECTED?

The Playlist Committee, made up of producers and chaired by Colin Martin, Executive Producer Music Radio 2, meet each week to decide which new releases will be added to the station's playlist.

The playlist contains about 30 tracks which are divided into three levels: A list, which receive the most plays, about 20 each week; B list 10 plays and the C list around 5 plays.

The Radio 2 playlist is one of the most varied of any radio station in the UK and can include albums as well as singles. Before any CD can be considered for inclusion it must be commercially available.

If this is true, then it seems like a vicious circle: EMI won't release the single because it's not on the play list, & the BBC won't consider it for the play list because it's not available on CD. Farcical... Embarassed

Does anybody know if "So Damn Beautiful" was officially released today, even if in downloadable format?

It's on iTunes anyway and apparently has been since 6/2/06.

Well, So Damn Beautiful seems history now.... I find that particularly disappointing like everyone else here, I guess.
Now we can only hope that "Staying Power" becomes a commercial success which might lead to the release of another single from the album, this time a "real" one. And perhaps that might be accompanied by the release of the other recorded track as the b-side.
Well, one can only hope, wait and see....

Regards,

Michael

Unfortunately, the single did not make the BBC Radio 2 playlist (See Here) and I believe without this, the decision was made for a download only.

I fail to see what difference this should make. All because it's not played on Radio 2 doesn't mean people won't buy it. After all, I seem to recall that when Tom Petty's The Last DJ album came out a lot of radio stations refused to play it because of its 'controversial' (read: he metaphorically stuck 2 fingers up at the music business) nature. However, it sold and still sells, getting some good reviews along the way.

It's a shame a little more credit and faith weren't placed in the potential buyers of So Damn Beautiful but sadly, us moaning about it likely won't make much difference in the grand scheme of things. But on the bright side, we have a great song and a great album - something to add to our existing Hollies collection and some nice brand new live songs for the shows

Not sure if it's the real thing or not, how would we know?

I decided to order it myself, still waiting for it, even though I have emailed the person asking when it will be sent out to me.

I got it myself this morning and it looks pretty genuine.
It is released by a record label called Liberty who are based in the states, maybe they are a sister company of EMI?

Mine has also just come through the door.

I think Liberty was the label it was too be released on and looking at the EMI site they do have Liberty on there.

Now I have to find a way of opening the cd case without breaking it, it's a bit stiff.

Rob, can anyone confirm that this is the cd single the Hollies was going to release, was it released in other countries?

Thank you,

Shelley

Now that "So Damn Beautiful" has fallen out of contention as the new release, is there a chance it can become the B side of a TRUE new release?

Can you please describe "Too Much Too Soon"? Is it uptempo or a ballad? What about musicanship and harmonies? Does it have chart appeal?

In my opinion it is a great ballad that showcases Peters voice at its best.

A good hook chorus as well.
I personally think any of the recently published material could chart if given the right opportunities by the media and record company.

My copies of the single have arrived this morning.

Now that I have got them in my hands, I am making enquiries about getting a supply.
