Hello Everyone.
I was just watching and enjoying a TOTP performance by Alvin Stardust and was suddenly reminded of something that has baffled me for many years.

I know prior to joining The Hollies, Bobby Elliott worked with him in The Fentones when he called himself Shane Fenton. However, I have read in a few odd places over the years that Shane/Alvin himself managed The Hollies for a while. Is there any truth in this and if so, when did this occur?

I would be most grateful to be put out of my misery!
Many thanks,
BAZ

I've don't recall hearing or reading that, but I will have to re-check the liner notes to my Shane Fenton and the Fentones collection. It may be that such an idea was kicked around in the mid 60s as Shane's light faded and the Hollies star rose. Or he did a very limited stint as their manager. Both acts were produced by Ron Richards, so there may have at least been some discussion about SF doing the management duties - perhaps it was Richards' own idea.

It's fun to listen to that Fentones anthology. Much of it was recorded before the Hollies first sessions in April, 1963, but you can clearly hear many of Ron Richard's production techniques that later showed up in the early Hollies tracks. Sort of a "roots of the Hollies" CD.

Not that I know of Mate. Reminded me of a funny story . I know quite some years ago now I was on the guest list for a Swinging Blue Jeans gig in Blackpool. Alvin Strdust was on the bill with them and I couldnt believe how short he was as he always used to look so tall on Top Of The Pops. Must have had a good cobler to build up the old boots!

But as regards been manager of The Hollies, Im not sure mate!
