The only Hollies song I can think of which I prefer by someone else is The Everly Brothers' version of 'Like Every Time Before'. The way The Hollies' 1968 version starts with the middle eight (rather than a guitar intro & a verse) makes it sound incomplete to me.

I wonder if the unreleased earlier cut (from March '66) had the same arrangement as The Everlys' version?

Peter

Hi Peter!
It gives any real great Hollies song versions - covers by other groups which were much better than the Hollies original version:
River - A litle thing like love - Out of this world
Glasmoon - On a Carousel
Wilson Brothers - Another Night
Bye Alf

Hello Aflons,
I agree with you about Glass Moon "On A Carousel". I think I like it better than Hollies original. Check out the video on YouTube. Excellent. Have not heard the other two you list.

Another cover version is of the song 'I've Been Wrong Before' off The Hollies album 'Hollies' from 1965. The American band 'The Buckinghams' also recorded a version of this song.

Norwegian artist Jahn Teigen did a great version of Harlequin. He is one of the 2 Norwegian male artists who managed to get zero points in Eurovision Song contest. He was by the way offered the position as lead vocalist in Genesis after Peter Gabriel left

Without question- King Midas in Reverse by THE POSIES recorded in 1990. I think they were one of the first US groups to record an orig Hollies Tune before the inclusion of the track on the Hollies Sing In Reverse some 5 years later!
Next would be Look Thru any Window by THE LOUD FAMILY. (The band that power pop wizard SCOTT MILLER put together after the indefatiguable dissolution of his first go-round GAME THEORY,
# 3 goes to STEVE WYNN formely of DREAM SYNDICATE for his very 'breathy reading'.
#4-5 Kudos and much accolades to former LET'S ACTIVE Mogul MITCH EASTER for his musically pleasant, 'Pay You Back with Interest' and (5) goes to The Flamingos' pop bliss-a-thon, 'Water on the Brain'

I totally agree, THE POSIES version of "King Midas..", quite simply, ROCKS!
The Posies are a great band. EVERYONE who is a Hollies fan needs to get into The Posies (and vice-versa, of course).

Agneta recommends Carla Olsson's version of Touch!

I haven't got the "Sing Reverse" album, but I've heard some of the songs.
Like I've told Knut, I really like Carla Olsson's version of Touch, almost better than the original, but I also love E's version of Jennifer Eccles. It's so different from the Hollies' version, so slow and intense, it's like a totally different song.

The "Sing Hollies in Reverse" CD is a must. It has liner notes by Nash and Clarke. While not all of the cover versions are that great, "King Midas" and "Jennifer Eccles" are superb, because both of them have imaginative arrangements that change the songs in a positive way. The CD is worth having for those two alone.
