One again for the few who enjoy the HOLLIES but ARE WISHBONE ASH FANS-Gordon J. Man Ive been a fan of the group since high school!
ORIG MEMBER ANDY POWELL in the bands THIRTY FIVE years of existence has seen many changes, esp in the guitar line-up dept.-from orig axevicttim-TED TURNER to LAURIE WISEFIELD to JAMIE CRUMPTON (ex-Suzi Quatro) to TED TURNER (once again) to Americans ROGER FILGATE TO MARK BIRCH and to ex-Gringo Loco Finnish guitarist BEN GRENFELT to now Fin MUDDY MANNING!!!!! Over the T'giving holiday my wife and I went to Memphis to See The Ash. Small place, about 75 people many coming to hear the familar 'Warrior' 'Sometime World' Living Proof' Jailbait, but were rather unfamilar with the mid-Ash material 'F.U.B.B.' and great Jimmy Reed classic 'Baby What You Want Me To Do.' and the most recent ditties from 2002's 'BONAFIDE' -'Faith Hope and Love' and 'Almighty Blues' By the way, since Ben left the group right before they toured here (Sept 04), this was Muddy's FIFTH show performing live in the lineup! Man did he have the stuff down! Phenomenal is the word to describe his playing!!! For those not overly familar w/ the band, there is (yet) another anthology put out called 'Backbones' which chronologics the history from the first record (1970) right up until their most recent (2002) Though if you can find on record or cd- 'New England' 'Just Testing' 'There's the Rub' 'Wishbone 4'
'Illuninations' 'Raw to the Bone'- get em! Plenty of LIVE stuff out on the group, highly recommended is their three LIVE DATES discs, also LIVE in GENEVA is a killer. Another great band that has NOT GOT THE DUE recogintion deserved, ESP here in the states!!!!
