We often tend to simply 'assume' that The Hollies classic second studio album; 'In The Hollies Style' must have sold quite poorly at the time of release back in autumn of 1964, as it did NOT chart in the 'official' LP chart used by the BBC at the time....

However, I note on page 22 of the 1993 book; '30 Years of the NME Albums Chart' it advises that "ITHS" actually DID chart in the famous NME LP chart, entering their 'Top Ten' at No.7 in the week of 24 October 1964, then remained at no.9 for the two following weeks, standing at no.10 position in the week of 14 November 1964, however it then went back up to it's peak position of No.6 in the week 21 November 1964.

The book only states 'Top Ten' then later 'Top 15' & finally 'Top 20' chart positions - so its quite possible that "ITHS" was still in the NME LP chart after it dropped out of the 'Top Ten' in November 1964....

ALL the other Hollies sixties albums have the same NME LP chart placings as in the 'official' album chart, with 'Hollies Sing Dylan' reaching no.3 during a ten week period in the 'Top 15' of the NME LP chart, a longer period than it was high in the 'official' BBC album chart..

'Hollies Greatest' was in the NME 'Top 15' for sixteen weeks from 17 August 1968 until 15 February 1969 and stood at the number one position for some TEN weeks, later climbing back up the 'Top 15' in the chart to no.7 and no.12 repectively after having previously dropped down in an overall 'Top 15' chart run that lasted until February 1969.

it seems most curious that if 'In The Hollies Style' could sell consistantly well enough to reach no.6 in the NME LP chart back in November 1964, and hold a 'Top Ten' position for five weeks, that it completely FAILED to chart at all in the 'official' album chart used by the BBC....eh ? Confused
