The radio program is no longer available. For those of us that were late to the game could someone post a summary of what Alan had to say? Many thanks. |

Hi Springer and Sass. I'll give it a go! Talk Sport is purely a sports radio station, so I think he was surprised to be invited in to chat, especially as he said he is not into sports at all.
He said his Dad took him to see Manchester United play when he was about 4 years old. He was sitting on his Dad's shoulders, surrounded by lots of men wearing caps, and it was raining! He hated it! Allan also said he had played cricket once for the Lord's Taverners charitable cricket team, but had no idea what was going on!
The presenters asked if he mixed with any footballers during the 'swinging 60's' time, and Allan said he had had a drink with George Best.
He mentioned, of course, that he was no longer with The Hollies, also that he had appeared on stage with Graham Nash recently at the Royal Albert Hall. Graham had brought over a replica Buddy Holly guitar to present to Allan. Only a few people get one of these guitars and usually they hand them back after one year, but Allan is allowed to keep his permanently. Allan said only one other person was allowed to do the same, but I can't remember who it was now. While on stage, Graham asked Allan if they could do Bus Stop together.
Allan says he is still writing songs.
They were talking about the new DVD, Look Through Any Window.
I can't remember much more, if anyone else can. At the end Allan apologised for not being able to talk about sports, but they said anyone who had a drink with George Best is fine by them! |

I know Long Cool Woman did not chart well in Europe as it did in the USA, my fav vid of Allan Clarke is the one of him singing this song that has over 4 million hits on YouTube.
I would love to ask Allan how he views himself in that vid as unlike all his other vids, he exudes total 'coolness.' We all know he is very under rated. I sometimes wonder if he had maintained a more cool persona, would he have been more respected? |
