If you say it it must be true Terry, hard to believe because I thought the Hollies were very big in Germany.
Thanks mate. |

Terry and Anthony,
Yes, Smokie IS big in Germany. The order of appearance at the Baden Airpark was: Searchers, Hollies, Smokie. Not that I saw Smokie - only heard them from behind the stage. I had a choice between watching them or going off to talk to Carl and the boys - and delivering those letter packets you both contributed to. Easy decision...
Funny thing is that next month I will see (or at least hear) nearly the same three bands, except this time it will be Mike Pender's Searchers. And it will be even more brilliant this time, what with that celebrated "party animal" Peeji traveling with us. You can imagine how much fun she's going to have, with her first year of uni behind her! |

Tee hee hee! Yes I am looking forward to all these bands! Especially the Hollies, although I am interested to see Smokie as my friend Madeline who took me to the Liverpool gig is a big fan of theirs; I'm interested to hear Smokie, I hope I'll know the songs I hear there.
Less than a month Brucie Baby!!! |

The Hollies` last big hit over here was the „Air That I Breathe“ 1974, and „What goes Around“ as latest LP with new recorded songs is dated well about twenty years back. Smokie came up with their first LP in 1975 and have new releases with regularity. Meanwhile Carl`s been with the Hollies for 4 years ; within that time we`ve got one new song. Legendary heroes never die... unfortunately their fans do, the Hollies hadn`t toured Germany for roughly 15 years, and the two or three one hour gigs they are now doing within a bunch of other oldie groups just isn`t enough to gather a large amount of new fans. |

If you want to see the real Smokie in concert better go to a Chris Norman concert because he is the voice behind the best songs. From what I heard the new Smokie must be a good live band too but Chris Norman is the best!
Go out and buy his new album Handmade! It's the best piece of music that was made in a lot of years.
P.S.: Smokie were always big in Germany, bigger than in any other country. Even Chris Norman had 3 solo Top Ten hits! |
