Hallo everybody!

A few months ago the new album by Chris Norman (Ex-Smokie singer) was released - it's called Handmade. It's a perfect album with only great songs on it. All the musicians do a great job and the vocals by Chris Norman can't be topped. One of the very best albums I've ever heard.
If you are interested in good handmade rock music then buy it - you can't go wrong.

If you first want to listen to the songs first you can go to http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000UM0YO/qid=1084547552/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_10_1/302-9724878-3435228
There you can listen to 30 seconds of each song.

On www.amazon.co.uk it costs 11,99 pounds and it's worth every single cent!

If someone already bought it then I would like to hear your opinion about it - if you haven't yet bought it then go out and do it!
I'm sure every Hollies fan will like that too, especially as many people here have Smokie on their favoutite 70's Bands list.

Hi Distant Light Exclamation

I Haven't heard of Smokie for years and thought that Chris Norman gave up singing. I was a huge fan of Smokie in the 70's and they are one of my all time favourite bands. When Smokie came to Australia in 1979 I went and saw them with my best friend Debbie (who is still my best friend) and we loved every second of it. I am going to look for that Chris Norman CD you mentioned and buy it.

All The Best

Susie

Hi Susie!

Chris Norman never gave up singing, he was very busy in the last twenty years! But he was most succesful in Germany were he had some top ten hits, his last three weeks ago (Amazing - #9 !!!).
After Handmade he released another album which is called Break Away. That is also a very good one but Handmade couldn't be topped anyway!
But Break Away isn't released yet anywhere else than in Germany I think! He also goes on tour this year but only in Germany and Denmark.

Here is a list of the original albums he released as a solo artist (for those who are interested):

Break Away [2004]
Handmade [2003]
Breathe Me In [2001]
Full Circle [1999]
Christmas Together [1997]
Into The Night [1997]
Reflections [1995]
Every Little Thing [1995]
Screaming Love Album [1994]
The Album [1994]
Jealous Heart [1993]
The Growing Years [1992]
The Interchange [1991]
Break The Ice [1989]
Different Shades [1987]
Some Hearts Are Diamonds [1986]
Rock Away Your Teardrops [1982]
--------------------------
Even Smokie still exist! After Chris Norman and Pete Spencer(Drums) left again in 1986 they (Alan Silson/Lead-Guitar,Vocals; Terry Uttley/Bass,Vocals) got a new singer called Alan Barton, who was very good too. He had a similar voice to Chris Norman. And he was a great songwriter by the way. I've only got one album by them, their first one, which is very good.

Here is a list of the albums Smokie released with Alan Brton as Lead Singer:

All Fired Up 1988
Boulevard of Broken Dreams 1989
Whoose Are These Boots 1990
Chasing Shadows 1992
Burnin' Ambition 1993
Celebration 1994

Then in 1995 Alan Barton died tragically in an accident in the tour bus.
But they still carried on with their third singer, Mike Craft. In my opinion the worst of the three but still good. With him they released:

The World + Elsewhere 1995

Then Alan Silson left but they found a replacement and they are still going. From the original members there is only Terry Uttley still in the band. Without Alan Silson they released:

Light A Candle 1996
Wild Horses /The Nashville album 1998
Uncovered 2000
Uncovered Too 2001

A new album will be released at the end of August this year!

If you are interested in Smokie or Chris norman webside here is a list with good ones:

Smokie played on the same bill as The Hollies at least three times last year in Germany.

Koln Arena, 22.03.03
Stuttgart Schleyer Halle. 28+29.03.03

They were excellent.

They will also be together at least twice this year, possibly more.

Heppenheim on 20 June and Vienna on 23 October.

Hi again Distantlight Exclamation

That's quite an impressive list of Albums from Chris Norman and Smokie. Chris has been a very busy bloke since leaving Smokie, recording an album almost every year since 1982. Very Happy

I went into one of the Chris Norman website and some photos of him and he is as good looking now as he was in the 70's. Smile

I also went into the Smokie site and looked at the tour dates up to March 2005 and noticed that they are in Vienna, Austria on the 23 October with 3 of my other favourite 70's Bands/Singer, The Hollies, Suzi Quatro and Sweet (wish I could be there). And Smokie will be in Australia between 26 October and 17 November but it does't say where they are performing. If their visit to Sydney doesn't coincide with my trip to England then I will go and see them. Razz

All The Best

Susie

Oh yes, that concert with Smokie, the Hollies, Suzi Quatro and Sweet will be great!
I hope that I can see Chris Norman in concert this year but as it seems he doesn't come near to where I live but perhaps he will add some concert dates, I hope in Cologne or some other place in that region.

P.S. Did you look for Handmade?

G'day Distantlight Exclamation

Yesterday, I went to every music shop in Penrith (that's about 10 of them) to look for Handmade but it wasn't in any of them. I did see some albums by Smokie (the original lineup) that I already have. I might go to Sydney next Saturday and look for Chris Norman's Handmade CD there.

All The Best

Susie

Hi Suzie!

I know that it's released in Europe, I don't know if it's released in Australia. You can look that up for example in Amazon Australia or other internet stores. Or maybe they don't have it in the stores but they can order it...

Good luck

Hi James Exclamation

I've heard that version of Living Next Door To Alice you mentioned, my brother has it on a cassette and he played once when I visited him.

And Distantlight, if I can't get a copy of Handmade, I will ask if I can order it.

All The Best

The Who The fool Is Alice version is sung by Smokie (with Alan Barton on Lead Vocals ; not Chris Norman who has sung the original; Chris doesn't like that new version at all he said in an interview).
Only the Alice, Who The fool is Alice shouts are made by an outside person but the rest is just a remake with the new singer.

Rob,

Smokie also played at the Hollies' Baden Airpark gig on 28/6/03. If I remember correctly, it was their crew that did a great job of helping our boys with their stage set-up. Smile

I could never work out why the Hollies were not Top of the Bill.
