Alan has been with the Hollies for over 20 years now but sadly I felt has never received the credit he deserves. Do others agree, I think we have always seen the Hollies as the members from the 60's and 70's and the others were seen as bit players. Many photos from the 90's only show Allan Clarke, Tony and Bobby.
Thanks Alan for being such a big part of the Hollies.

Hi Anthony Exclamation

I couldn't agree with you more, Alan Coates does deserve more credit than he has had for his part in the Hollies and so does Ray, Ian and Carl (and Tony and Bobby of course). Alan has been in the band for about 22 years and Ray and Ian aren't far behind so they and Carl deserve to be recognised as Hollies band members and not extras or something.

All The Best

Going back into the studio and producing one new hit single would change all of that. The Hollies would than truly be Alan Coates, Ian Parker, Carl Wayne, Tony Hicks, and Bobby Elliott and the world would be re-introduced to them.

Hi Holliesfan Exclamation

Thats a very good point you made, a new single would be great but a new studio (or live) album would be fantastic. If a new single or especially an album doesn't make the world recognise Alan, Ray, Carl, and Ian as full time Hollies then I don't think anything will. Like Anthony, I've only seen photos from the 90's that only have Tony, Bobby and Allan Clarke but no Alan (Coates), Ray or Ian although I have a photo (from a magazine) from 1987 which does have Alan, Ray and Denis Haines (who Ian replaced) in it.

All The Best

Check out Coatsey's slide guitar and 'Can't Tell the Bottom from the Top'! Ooh and his 'Carousel' singing! Very Happy

Even if the world doesn't know it, we know he's great as are Ray and Ian. Sadly there's more underrated artists out there that don't get the recognition they deserve while those who get too much aren't exactly "musicians".

A live album would be amazing though..... darn I'm just dreaming aren't I?

*zucht* Sad

And Alan does an absolutely marrrrrrrrrrrrvellous job on 'I Can't Let Go'. When they played the song in Melbourne I didn't know how they would go on the high vocal. But Alan was fantastic. The Hollies did a great job in recruiting Mr Coates to the band.

My gosh! Has Alan really been in the band for 22 years? That is just amazing. Those of us 'cross the pond would not know anything about it if it wern't for info here. I agree that new recordings could change the whole notion about who the Hollies are. I'm afraid however, if I hold my breath, I'll turn blue and pass out, and when I come to, there still won't be any new Hollies recordings. Anyhow Alan, my hat is off to you, way to go, you have paid your dues, You are a Hollie!

Hi Folks
Just reading back through old postings in the group. Still been quite new to the forum. I have to say that everytime I have seen The Hollies Alan does a superb job on the Vocals and Guitar. I mean he sounds every inch an original Hollie.

Im just trying to remember what I saw him sing at the last Hollies concert I went to a few years ago. I think it was "On A Carousel" its not easy to sing those parts that Graham Nash did all those years ago,but as I said above he does a superb job!!!

Its a credit he has been with the group so long! and I hope he is with them for many years to come.

Martin

Hilarious, Anthony! I can't top that...

In reference to the start of the baseball World Series tomorrow, though, I will respond. You have to imagine the home team batter is at the plate, and the crowd is loudly trying to destroy the visiting team hurler's concentration, to make him throw bad pitches.

So they might yell: "For those about to walk, we confuse you!".

You can groan now... Embarassed

Anyhow, I suppose we had better (somehow) get back to the topic of Alan Coates, before Umpire Rob ejects us from the game.

Hey Bruce, Andy has hidden the evidence, now Mr.Rob will have no idea what we are talking about, he'll think the twins have gone off the deep end again.
Alan has been a great asset to the band over the past 20 or so years. Would love to know more about what he did before joining the Hollies.
