I just thought I'd share that I've developed an appreciation for this song. It's good fun. I find Another Night to be one of the least of The Hollies albums to be honest but it does have the odd charm. Johnny is, probably, one of them.

I think that the song, as well as the whole album is rather good. It's not my favourite album but it's really good. Some very nice ballads ("Lonely Hobo Lullabye", "I'm Down", "Sandy") and rock songs like "Time Machine Jive" are some of my favourite Hollies tunes. I also like "Come Down To The Shore" which is a Bonus Track on the Magic Records release and originally was recorded for the "Another Night" album and released on "Abbey Road 73-89" first.
"Look Out Johnny" shows how good The Hollies were as 70s rockers |

I always think that the album has a very 'urban' feel to it, annd indeed the album cover lends its self to this notion. It's also quite an intense album at times. |

I'm guessing James means...less "Sweet Country Calling" and more "Another Night" ... |

O.K., thanks for the information. That means that I love both, country and urban feel because I like both songs.
For me "Another Night" is a highlight from "Another Night" and "Sweet Country Calling" is a highlight from "Write On" (nice country guitar solo by Tony and a nice chorus). |

Basically, Bruce, yeah!
Another Night - out in the clubs of a big city...
Sandy - references to New Jersey...
Look Out Johnny - has a town bar atmosphere...
Just a feeling the album has, the great thing is we all interpret music differently. |

Lookout Johnny (tamoyb).
What stands out to me are the Syncopation of the intro measures ,
Allans `Elvis' influenced vocal & Tony's smoldering lead guitar solo .
Plus , underlying nifty stuff like Allans Harmonica and the Hollies tried
and true sonic blast of harmonic delight |

Yeah, it's an interesting solo quite unusual in sound for Tony Hicks, I think it's the only really 70s solo I've ever ehard him play. Shows again how versatile he is. |
