OK All of us Hollies fans know what an outstanding vocalist Allan Clarke is - But which track in The Hollies back catalogue do you think that he really shines the most ?????

My fave is "Don't Let Me Down" - Not only did Allan pen this outstanding masterpiece but his heartfelt vocals are like a dream come true with syrup on the top and the rest of the boys are like angels in the mist. Allan Clarke - What's your fave ?????

Hi Carrie Anne!
It is impossibleto top He ain't heavy. However, if you say song that he wrote or co-wrote, A little thing like love is a strong contender. If we are talking solo work, there was another tread.

It wasn't a single, but I've always thought that Allan's vocal on "Look What We've Got" was incredibly powerful.

Great thread Carole Smile Very tricky to choose one Hollies song for a Clarkey like me I absolutely adore Don't Let Me Down but the one that springs to mind for me is What Went Wrong from For Certain Because. In my opinion that was the first song where his powerhouse vocals really started to happen.

There are so many great songs that Allan sang. My top 3 in The Hollies catalogue are:
1. He Ain't Heavy (many singers tried but noone sang it with so much emotion)

2. High Classed (I love the way he sings it; can't describe it; he really sounds like a guy loving a high classed girl; it's like he is acting this song)

3. Curly Billy (a real Allan Clarke classic rock)

Very hard to narrow it down and I love all the titles that have been mentioned thus far, but my personal fave performances are on "Don't You Even Care" and "Rain on the Window"--oh, the urgency! The live "Taste of Honey" from the Split concert kills me too. You need massive lung power to get through the phrasing on "I Can't Let Go" without passing out, so I bless his natural gifts everytime I hear it. And he really rocks out on "Distant Light" despite the sour puss he displays in the inner sleeve--"Hold On" and "Promised Land" being particular standouts there for me. I could go on and on but I'll spare ya...

Yes I agree Allan Clarke is the most underrated singer in rock and roll music.
But you forget Very Last Day. What a song.

Have a nice evening.

Hehe he does look a sour puss on the inner sleeve doesn't he Laughing I forgot about Write On which is another standout vocal performance by 70s Allan but he delivered so many fantastic vocal performances that we could go on and on he is so underrated.

I love all songs sung by Allan Clarke but if I have to choose a couple of favourites they will have to be Too Young To Be Married, Boulder To Birmingham, Don't Let Me Down and Sandy.

'Why Didn't You Believe' from Hollies Sing Hollies is a great Allan Clarke performance. He sings with conviction and I still think that he is one of the best and most distinctive rock vocalists since rock music began.
