The biggest swedish newspaper had a Hollies-related headline yesterday on its frontpage; "Rickfors stung by a scorpion". Rickfors is now at a hospital in Nairobi getting treatment. Now there´s a risk that he can´t participate in the European song contest (swedish qualification).
The reason for being in Nairobi is that Rickfors and his wife are fundraisers for a school in Kenya.
Hope he´ll get good treatment and will recover soon! |

No update as far as I can find. There´s an updated article today in one of the biggest papers, but no news. His plan was to go back to Sweden on Monday, but now there may be changed plans. |

Hello!
This is my translation of the interview with Mikael:
-My contribution is written by Thomas G:son, and it rocks!
He phoned me and said: -Now I’ve written a song for you for the Eurovision Song Contest.
And we went into the studio and recorded it.
-As I said – it rocks!
- My connection to the Eurovision Song Contest is …
- Well, I started when I was a boy, and sang in the choir at a time when everything was more charming, at Cirkus (in Stockholm). And I’ve sang in the choir behind Swedish artists like Ted Gärdestad, Björn Skifs, Pugh Rogefeldt, Magnus Uggla and many many more.
- And now? I’m curious to see what has happened since then.
- During the last years I’ve been touring, writing music, recording here and there, trying to find the right style for me, at my age, so to speak.
- I’ve had a child, I’ve married, I’ve travelled a lot. Well, that’s about all I’ve had time for.
- I’m doing this now, mostly I think, to give myself a nice present on my 60th birthday.
- Rock!
His contribution is called: "Du Vinner Över Mig" (You Win Over Me) |

Thank you very much for the translation Agneta. I noticed this week Mikael was online on Myspace. I hope he is recovering swiftly from his accident and hopefully will still be able to partake in the contest- Cheers Carrie Anne |

Two days ago, Mikael was interviewed on radio Rix FM. Here is a link to their site.
http://www.rixfm.com/#
Top left it says: LYSSNA PÅ RIX FM LIVE in yellow letters. Click on the arrow there.
In the next window: bottom right “Sök efter ljud …”. Write in “Rickfors” and click on the magnifying glass.
Then you can watch a video clip from the beginning of the interview, or listen to the interview, in Swedish, nearly 15 minutes divided into two parts.
For those of you who don't speak Swedish, I'v written a quick summary of the interview.
Mikael talks about how he got stung in the elbow by a scorpion, while sitting by a camp fire, singing and playing with some Maasai people in a small village in Kenya. It was not until the next morning, when he woke up with a swollen arm, that he realized he had to go to hospital. It was 300 kilometers to the next hospital, where he got treatment. Scorpions in Kenya are not deadly, and he says he’s getting better every day.
He also says he’s hoping to make a record with the Maasai people, maybe this summer, and talks about a school project in Kenya that he and his wife are engaged in.
He says that life begins at 60, or a few years earlier (an encouraging thought), and confirms that his youngest son is named after Otis Redding.
Mikael also admits to liking motorbikes; H.D. is his favourite.
Then he talks a bit about the Hollies!
The guy interviewing him says that the Hollies were gigantic “in those days”, that Mikael has made a place in the history books and that there must be lots of fans still around.
Mikael answers that he gets letters and emails from Australia, Germany and all over the world.
He is then asked if he can benefit in any way from the fact that he was the lead singer with the Hollies. He answers that he hasn’t tried, but some people have told him that he should.
The guy interviewing him, mentions The Air That I Breath and He Ain’t Heavy as examples of Hollies hits, and Mikael says that he’s taken up Bus Stop.
He says that he hopes to get a new record out at the beginning of April, with songs in English.
Finally he talks about his contribution to the Swedish trial for the Eurovision Song Contest, where he will partake Saturday the 21st. |

Strong song, but he came 5 this night and was beaten out. That's the way it is with competitions like this. |

I watched the programme, and I think Mikael did a good job, though perhaps it wasn't his best performance ever. He didn't get very good reviews, but at least he was voted nr 5 out of 8 contributions.
Anyway I liked his song, I thought it was great to watch him, and I rang and voted for him!
And Carole, it was I who got the dates mixed up in the first place, though I corrected it afterwards. |
