Yes I believe he was an accomplished musician. I think he played guitar on Marigold from Hollies Sing Hollies. I also saw him play keyboards in 1999. and he played harmonica and tambourine on the majority of the Hollies tracks too Smile On Tell Me To My Face from For Certain Because he is the guy who plays those drums at the very beginning!

Hi Benny,
Sadly from what you say the Hollies seem to do the oldies type of tours of Germany with other groups, it's a shame as the Hollies had heaps of hits there. On the plus side you still get a chance to see the lads,
all the best,
Anthony

I can't actually find the EP sleeve that you are looking for Neville, but I think this early photograph is interesting.

Allan is pictured with an acoustic guitar here-I'm not sure what song they were performing though.

As far as Hollies memorabilia I'm so jealous of you guys who have got autographs of the band! I do have most of the hollies hit singles on record though and a few collectable albums including the best of the Hollies EPs (first version) and also Greatest Hits Volume 2. I have also got tour programmes from when I saw them in 1999, 2003 and 2008 plus a dozen of past nme/melody maker/disc articles Smile

Found the EP cover photograph, 'Here i Go Again' Parlophone GEP8915
released in Oct 1964. Allan is seen in the studio with an acoustic guitar.

The picture of the band posted earlier is interesting, in that they seemed
to need three guitars to perform that number. I thought at first that it might
be Bus stop, but i'm not so sure now.

So we have a Graham Nash era song requiring three guitars that if it has
been played on stage in recent years the third guitar hasn't been used.

Any ideas?

I have no big memorabilia : no drumkit, no signed guitar, no original singles/albums BUT I made a beautiful picture of the band at the end of their latest convention in 2006; when I saw them back in 2007 I had the opportunity to ask Bobby, Tony, Peter and Ray to sign 'that' picture (and maybe I will get the autographes of Ian and Steve if I will have the chance to see them later this year ?).
I also have a signed tourbook from 2007 for which I am still grateful.

They also played "Bus Stop" with two guitars only in 1966 when they appeared on the "Beat, Beat, Beat" TV programme. Allan plays no guitar on this performance. Did he ever really play guitar on "Bus Stop" ?
I only have een him playing electric guitar on "Long Cool Woman".

You lot are making me jealous Laughing

I bought the autographed Terry Sylvester 2CD collection from his website, plus the autographed Griffin & Sylvester album (also autographed by James Griffin), these are pretty special to me. Some great music in those discs!

Missed out on an interesting piece of memorabilia many years ago when i went
into a record/junk store somewhere in the midlands and was offered a pair of
Allan Clarke's electric blue cuban heel stage boots.

Not sure if they were genuine or not but seem to remember saying they weren't
my size or something else pretty lame.

If i'd bought them what would i have done with them, i wonder where they
ended up...

My most treasured piece of memorabilia is the concert ticket and programme from when I first saw the Hollies live, back in early 1967 when I was just 15 years old.

I remember it well. It was at the Mansfield Granada (which is no longer there) and the Hollies topped the bill of a package tour which also included the Spencer Davis group (featuring Stevie Winwood), Paul Jones (who had just left Manfred Mann to pursue a solo career) and the Tremeloes.

I wish video recorders had been invented back then!!

Hi all!

Great to read about your Hollies memorabilia and watch the photos!

Here is a photo I really treasure. It was taken in the folk park in Vänersborg 1968, actually by my mum, but I was right there too. Tony came early, with the roadies (Rod and Derek) and the instruments, and when we asked if we could take a picture, he said: “Smile, smile, smile”, and “Push your button!” Later I got his autograph.

The best photo of Tony I have ever seen. I'm surprised that you could get so close to a star. It would be a dream come true coming so close to Tony and making a photograph of him (with me and him on the photo together in the best case Very Happy )
