Hi Everyone Exclamation

The Hollies will always be No.1 on my list of musicians. Below in no particular order are some of my other favourite bands/singers.

Gerry And The Pacemakers
Manfred mann
Herman's Hermits
The Mixtures (Aussie Band)
Ronnie Burns (Aussie Singer)
Johnny O'Keefe (Aussie Singer)
The Beatles
The Seekers
The Searchers
Tom Jones

There you have it, I would like to know what 60's musicians you all like (apart from the best band on the planet The Hollies) Cool

I have seen all of these musicians live except The Beatles because when they did their one and only Aussie tour in 1964, I was too young. I saw The Seekers 11 years ago when they reformed and did a 25 Anniversary tour.

All The Best

Susie

Hi Gordon and John Exclamation

Very impressive lists you have there, but I do have one question Gordon, who were The New Vaudeville Band Question I have never heard of them.

I agree John, the 60's was a great era and the 70's were great too, I had more favourite popstars in those days than I do now. Cool

Hi Susie. Winchester Cathedral was the first hit for the New Vaudeville Band back in 66. Two others followed, Peekaboo and Finchly Central. The New Vaudeville band were a twenties style band with a vocalist. Sadly they didn't last long. If you've heard Honey Pie by the beatles, then you've heard the type of song the NVB used to perform. The referance to Graham was that on his 30th birthday he celebrated by haveing a nice wee acid trip to himself and headed for Stonehenge and ended up in Winchester Cathedral. The result can be heard on CSN from 77.
All the best

Thankyou for the interesting information Gordon, it is much appreciated. Smile

Sounds like Graham had a great 30th birthday Smile I never had that much fun when I turned 30. Sad

No I don't think I've heard Honey Pie by The Beatles at least it doesn't ring a bell anyway. Confused

My favourite Bands/Singers from the '60s (I was born in 1986 so there might still be a lot of Bands that I haven't discovered yet) are:

1. The Beatles (They are the best band ever. Nobody came close and nobody ever will!)

2. The Hollies (I can't put them on number one because they can't compete with the Beatles but that's not a fault because nobody could)

3. The Kinks (Ray Davis is in my opinion one of the best songwriters ever!)

4. The Who (They recorded some great singles in the '60s and they had Tommy. And they had a great Bassplayer (John Entwistle) and one of the best drummers (Keith Moon) ever)

5. Jimi Hendrix Experience (Jimi Hendrix is a guitargod and a good songwriter. With the experience he only recorded three studio albums but they are all milestones in rock music. By the way, Mitch Mitchel is my favourite drummer)

6. The Move (Great singles, great albums and... Carl Wayne on vocals)

7. Cream (Great Blues-Psychedelic-Hard-Rock band. All the bandmembers are really really good at their instruments)

8. Small Faces (They have one of my favourite singers of the '60s, Steve Marriott)

9. Byrds (They would have been much better if they had a really outstanding singer but they are pretty good anyway.)

10. Bob Dylan (One of the best songwriters but unfortunetly not one of the best performers and singers, so his songs are often done much better by other artists (see Hollies Sing Dylan, or the Manfred Mann cover of Mighty Quinn))

...and of course there are many other great bands like Moody Blues, Doors, Love, Animals or some of the early Beat bands like Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J. Kramer or the Searchers.

I still haven't mentioned the Rolling Stones yet, but they would never be in a list of my favourite bands (although they had some good albums) - I'm a Beatles fan

In no particular order....

1. Hollies - aye, pretty good on the whole Wink
2. Beatles - 'nough said
3. Rolling Stones - ditto
4. Small Faces - glad to see this band getting some recognition in recent years, first rate stuff.
5. Who - I like the 70's stuff much better, but any band who could come up with 'Substitute', 'I Can See For Miles' and 'Pinball Wizard' are superb!
6. Move - ditto Small Faces comment
7. Moody Blues - Hayward/Lodge beginning to blossom
8. Amen Corner - Hello Suzie, ...Paradise.., Gin House Blues - great stuff
9. Kinks - Ray Davies - quality songwriter
10. Procol Harum - if only for Whiter Shade of Pale, better in the 70's.
