My two Allan Clarke anthologies have arrived today:
1. Heroes & Survivors (material from his two albums "I Wasn't Born Yesterday" and "Legendary Heroes" + single tracks)
2. Headroom/Allan Clarke/I've Got Time (3 in 2)
And they are GREAT. Anybody who doesn't own them - buy them. Sanctuary Records and BGO have done excellent jobs. The quality is superb and the albums, too.
One of the tracks I haven't heard on youtube before I love is Allan rocking on "New Blood". What a great track. And there are MANY, MANY , MANY more. |

Yes, great discs! Funnily enough I was listening to the BGO relese in the car 30 minutes ago! If I Were The Priest and Born To Run better quality on the BGO release. |

Better quality ? Really ? I haven't noticed that yet.
Both sound great to my ears.
It's quite interesting to see Allan's "'Arold" album and his 1989 release both mentioned in the liner notes. I wonder if this first and last solo attempt will be released on CD officially someday.
Especially "'Arold" would interest me. Just to see the difference to the follow-up album "Headroom" that is more rocking than "'Arold" (according to the liner notes). A comparison would be very interesting. |

ive all of allans albums- i think!! and they are great, some on cd and others on record. his last album is great. Alan coates wrote some songs on that. Reasons to believe in is a cracking song. i do have a question though if anyone can answer? Perhaps geoff! there is only 9 songs on the record and 10 on the cd? why? |

Do you mean his last 1989 release ? I didn't know that there is a CD release.
Maybe the tenth song is a bonus track. Things like that aren't unusual on CD releases of former LPs. |

Thanks for the correction. The single B side (also by memory) was Without love - the Sutherland brothers track |

I have found another highlight on my new Allan Clarke Discs. Still "Light Of My Smiles" and "The Survivor" are my two favourites. But a new title starts coming directly behind and that is "People Of That Kind". This is my favourite track from "Headroom". I love the lyrics, the feeling of the song, the piano riff and Allan's voice on that song. What do you think ? |

I also love People of that kind and it is my second favourite on Headroom just behind Would You Believe (Revisited) . The lyrics are very strong and Allan voice has an emotional feel to it which makes you believe what he is actually singing. I wonder if this was written during the time of Vietnam |

Definitely, it lasted most of the sixties to the mid '70's (the war, not the song!) |

Some songs seemed to last that long, such as Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".
Allan was expressing himself in that way in Hollies songs such as "Soldiers' Dilemna", "You Know The Score", and "Promised Land". Interesting to compare those with Graham Nash's songs such as "Chicago" and "Military Madness". |

Yes, The Hollies songs on the subject seemed more sophisticated than Nash's IMHO. |
