Was anything that Bruce Welch produced for the Hollies ever released? |

Did he actually produce anything for them ? Quite interesting because his producing resulted in three of Cliff Richard's best albums - "I'm Nearly Famous", "Every Face Tells A Story" and "Green Light". Every harmony vocals fan should own them. It sounds great .
If his producing The Hollies would be equally great that would be fantastic. |

yeah, these are my three favorite Cliff Richard albums, too! I'm not a big fan of him but these three are really good! |

Bruce Welch Produced three versions of the Clarke-Hicks song "I Don't Understand You". |

My opinion on this is that Welch really was the catalyst in the Sylvester lineup falling apart. As Del Boy would say 'what a plonker!' |

Does anyone know who's in line to produce the forthcoming album? |

Thanks Gee for that information. I do have a version of I don't understand you which is a great track by the way that could have been from the What Goes Around album from Germany. The version I have got is definitely not with Labi Siffre so it might be the second they cut. I wonder why it hasn't been released anywhere else |

Bruce Welch's involvement led to Terry and Bernie's departure without question. But Bernie, in an interview years later, confessed that by that time it was a case of "familiarity breeding contempt" among the band members. They had grown tired of each other, combined with the lack of record success for the previous 7 years, creating a situation where something had to give. |

O,K., they had grown tired of each other and I can see why (although I don't quite understand because it didn't happen to the Stones or The Beach Boys and they also started in 1962/63. And in the case of The Beach Boys - they also had no big hits after 1970 anymore).
But I can't understand why they didn't return to the band as Allan did in 1974. I have never heard much about a career after The Hollies in both Terry's and Bernie's case. I thought that at some point band members become nostalgic and want to return then. I really would like to know whether Terry and Bernie had the idea to return in the 1980s or 1990s. |

It is my understanding that, since Terry and Bernie were not original members, they were considered hired hands in a sense. Their standing in the group was less strong. In Allan Clarke's case, he was an original member and the lead singer and therefore rather indispensible, despite the excellent Rickfors era. This is why he left on two occasions ('71 and '77) but later returned. Perhaps Terry and Bernie would have come back if they were asked to do so, but apparently that did not happen. It is particularly disappointing in the case of Terry, since he was a crucial part of the band's vocal sound, and it can easily be said that the band never sounded as good again without him. (Imagine "Laughter Turns To Tears" recorded with Terry and released as an A-side. I feel certain that would have been a hit, followed by a whole album of rocking tunes. What a comeback that would have been.) It has never been explained how Clarke rejoined the second time around, but the first time it came about when Tony and Allan discussed the matter over a meal and they decided to patch things up. |

From what I've read Bernie left the music industry and went into business management and Terry recorded the excellent album with James Griffin after which he appeared to nosedive into obscurity...rather odd considering his considerable talent. |

Seems strange to me how someone can turn his back on making music forever. |

Ah, "Laughter Turns to Tears"...that definitely should have been a hit. I wonder why it wasn't marketed as such. Also, I often wonder what the band thought about it at the time. And yes, Terry's vocals would have added so much more. |

I thought I heard Bernie got involved in the food industry in some capacity. It is not unusual for people to change careers; happens all the time.
Bernie didn't abandon the public eye completely. There was that one-off concert he and Terry did together, in the UK I think. Don't know the year. Geoff or someone else knows I'm sure. |
