I've just heard a longer version of Yes I Will, than the one I have. Was it released as a longer, more acoustic version? and where would I find it? |

There are two readily available versions. First, we had a fairly rough version (pretty much unfinished) where Hicks is only strumming chords everywhere except during his solos. This wasn't released by mistake, I think, back in 1968 on their Greatest Hits LP. It has since been reissued on a variety of other discs.
Then we have the real single version, which is likely the version that you're familiar with. This was recorded later, but was of course the first version released. Note how the guitar is much more intricate in the single version. |

I found the long 'under produced' version on The Hollies Greatest album 1968.
I wonder why they put this version on the album, and not the single release? |

During the sixties EMI appear to have "Misplaced" the true Stereo master tapes of both "Yes I Will" (single version) and "If I Needed Someone"
They had to "Reprocess for Stereo" the Mono version of IINS for "Hollies Greatest Vol 2" in March 1972....while earlier in August 1968 they included the correct Mono version of the single "Yes I Will" (cut on 3 January 1965) on the Mono "Hollies Greatest" album PMC 7057....but then used the earlier faster Stereo version cut on 15 December 1964 on the Stereo album PCS 7057, presumably as they at that time could not locate the true Stereo master of the single version.
They still could not find it later in July 1978 as the single Mono version of "Yes I Will" was then reprocessed for Stereo on the
UK "20 Golden Greats" album....
However both the true Stereo versions of "If I Needed Someone" & "Yes I Will" (single version) had been later located for inclusion on the "Evergreen" "Air that I Breathe" very best of...compilation CD by 1993. |

It does seem really strange, how the original stereo version was 'lost' for almost 15 years, possibly more?!
Thankyou for the info guys x |
