We had threads about Abba and the Marmalade... what's about the Easybeats? I have just listened to their "Vigil" album from 1968 again. The only one I own so far. I quite like the album although the sound isn't too great. The reissue is from 1992 and it definitely needs some rematsering because it sounds quite bad in some places.

But nevertheless I like most of the songs and their way of playing and singing. And it's mostly selfwritten!

My two favorites so far are the rocking opener "Good Times" where the lead singer almost sounds like a screamin Steve Marriott and the psychedelic "Land Of Make Belive" that has some complex drumming. Talking about drumming... the intro to "Sha La La" must be the worst one i've ever heard on record. The beat is a bit more difficult (but nothing really heavy) and he plays it so bad... I always wonder why they didn't start it again. But otherwise the drummer does fine... maybe he just wanted to play as bad as the song is... if that's the case he succeeded! Very Happy

What do you think about them or this album? which other albums do you have and which ones would you recommend?

In my opinion The Easybeats have been one of the best Australian bands of all time. Try albums such as Easy, Easybeats Anthology, which has 40 songs. Stevie Wright was the lead singer and the band put out a number of singles which were very successful in Australia. In fact The Easybeats were Australia's answer to The Beatles attacting hysteria whenever they played. Their biggest hit was Friday On My Mind, but She's So Fine, Come And See Her, Sorry, and Easy As Can Be were all great songs.

I always thought the Easybeats were our Aussie version of the Beatles, they were big in the charts, wrote their own material. A Brilliant band from the 60's.

Another example where I only know one song of - "Friday On My Mind". BUT I have always trusted in this forum and I never have regretted it to this day, so I put The Easybeats on my list.
Thanks, DistantLight Very Happy

Easybeats were way up among my favourites in the late 60s. Come in you'll get pneumonia is hereby recommended - also released by Gary Walker, who incidentally was a friend of Graham Nash (and also recorded Nash songs solo, when Walker Brothers drifted apart). So there you have the Hollies link, puh!
