Great find - I never knew about this. Without a doubt one of the very best singles the band (Hollies) released. |

I must say I'm not a big fan of Sir Elton but I really like this version. It is an amazing song but no one really does it justice like the lovely Mr.Clarke . |

I think one of the key aspects of the song which makes it so good is the regular change of tempo, and how it builds up and climaxes. Oh hell, what have I said?
Bernie Calvert's bass work is absolutely superb and it is one of Clarkey's best vocals. |

Yes I agree along with He Ain't heavy and Air that I Breathe no one really does these songs justice other than clarkey though Sir Elton does a good job on this I must say |

It has also been said that Elton John played piano on the original recording of I Cant Tell The Bottom From The Top as well as He Aint Heavy.I quite like Eltons version its got a raw sound about it. |

He also played organ on Perfect Lady Housewife from the Confessions Of The Mind album. |

Did he really James, well i cetainly did'nt know that.I know that the Hollies knew him really well in the early days and published a lot of his songs.None that were of any commercial success but the fact that they had them there and obviously being such an amazing songwriter, it wasa major coo wasn't it.I suppose if they get stuck for any songs for there new album they can delve into the archives and pull one of them out. |

I think Bernie Calvert recorded stuff with a band which Elton was in (Bread and Beer Band?)...Geoff will be able to advise. |

Any chance the Hollies could entice Sir Elton to be a guest artist on their forthcoming album? Maybe he would even work with them to write a song. |

Mike Batt was interviewed on Radio 2 at lunchtime today - maybe they could cover another of his songs, as the three they covered in the late '70's/early '80's were superb. |

What a good idea!
I have great respect for Mike Batt for writing Soldier's Song and If The Lights Go Out, and even more for the wonderful, sad song Can't Lie No More, which I love.
Also among my favourites are Bright Eyes and As Long As The Moon Can Shine (from The Hunting Of The Snark), sung so beautifully by Art Garfunkel. |

Bright Eyes surely must be one of the most beautiful, poignant songs ever written. A true classic in every sense.
I'd go as far as to say that anyone who has ever lost someone close to them cannot fail to be moved by this song. |
