I totally agree, Dennis. Mikael's version of "He Ain't Heavy" on "The Midnight Special" is awe-inspiring. Allan's is the classic version, but Mikael's is just as good.

Also of interest is the version of "He Ain't Heavy..." as performed by The New Amen Corner; it's on their new CD release. Some of the group's perfomances are on YouTube, including the great "If Paradise Is Half As Nice". They do ALL vintage late '60s hits; their own and other groups'. Their vocalist is EXCELLENT. Check them out.

The performance by The Hollies is found on the DVD "The Midnight Special" 1973, available through The Midnight Special website. But it is a series of DVDs; they send out one DVD every 6 weeks or so. But you can send back any you don't want for a full refund. You can also check Ebay, where they sometimes show up individually to bid on. Also "More 1975" (incorrect dating) has the band with Terry Sylvester singing "Long Cool Woman", which is a must as well. This DVD series, of course, is on the US NTSC format.

Yes, The Hollies also performed "Magic Woman Touch" (with a live lead vocal by Rickfors) which was broadcast and "Amazing Grace" which was not. Neither of these have surfaced.

To get this back on topic, my favourite songs are

Yes I Will
I Can't Tell The Bottom From The Top
Boulder To Birmingham
Lucy
Don't Let Me Down

Not necessarily in that order and tomorrow they could change. How difficult is it to select a few from so many?

Stay - Nash's screaming vocals make this version the best: I have heard the other versions but the Hollies is so much more rocking

I Can't Let Go

Gasoline Alley Bred

The Baby

Son of a Rotten Gambler

Interesting 5-song selection. In a just world, "Son Of A Rotten Gambler" would have been a No. 1. Maybe it was a bit too subtle for the chart, but it is a superb track no matter how you look at it, another great song penned by Chip Taylor. I don't think it charted at all in the UK (and didn't get released in the US as a result) but it did make the Dutch Top 10. When I visited Holland in 1974, I was very glad to find a copy in a record store there. I also picked up "Out On The Road", another happy find.

Too Young To Be Married, brilliant guitar solo, wonderful words thanks to Tony and a number 1 here in Australia, one of the few Hollies songs I head on the radio when it was in the charts.
Second LCW and third Soldiers song. From the 60's I loved Carrie Anne.

I agree Agneta it is very difficult choosing our favourite songs especially when they change all the time. These are some more that mean a lot to me.

Too Young To Be Married-Wonderful poignant lyrics
Confessions Of A Mind-A true masterpiece
Survival Of The Fittest-Reminds me of someone special
To Do With Love-Makes me cry
Out On The Road-Great times
Promised Land-A gem
Stop,Stop,Stop-Makes me smile
Long Cool Woman(with Terry Sylvester on lead vocals from The Midnight Special 1973)-Smouldering performance and CHECK OUT TERRY'S POUT.

Yes, I also think Terry did a terrific job on 'Long Cool Woman'. It's just interesting for him to sing it instead of Allan. He is obviously enjoying doing it. And doesn't he fit the image of a rock and roll star with that face and that hair.
