I've just heard the sad news that Rod Allen of the Fortunes passed away yesterday after a very short illness. He was only 63.

I've seen them a few times over the years and he was an excellent frontman with a great voice.

He'll be sadly missed.

RIP Rod.

This sad news futher supports the notion that the Hollies should come together to honor and celebrate all their surviving band members...thank God we still have them all.

This statement appeared on the Fortunes website ...

"It is with the deepest regret and sadness, that we have to announce that
after a very short illness, Rod quietly and peacefully passed away with
his family around him at his home in Coventry on Thursday 10th January
at 1am.

Rod's terrible illness was diagnosed just two short months ago and we
all held our breath and hoped and prayed that his treatment would
succeed..... but it wasn't to be.

Rod's wonderful voice and sparkling personality has undoubtedly endeared
him to countless thousands of people all over the world in his long
career. His contempories would all agree that his was one of the most
distinctive voices to come out of the Golden Era of popular music.

Rod's wish was for The Fortunes to continue, so we will do our utmost to
keep his legacy alive and make The Fortunes a group that Rod would be
proud of."

Not quite, Holliesfan. Remember we lost Carl Wayne a few years ago.

I am very sorry to hear of Rod Allen's passing. The Fortunes have brightened many hours for me, listening to their wonderful hits such as "You've Got Your Troubles", "Here It Comes Again", "That Same Old Feeling", "Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again", and my favorite, "Storm In A Teacup", a song that is so intoxicating it merits many repeat plays. A genuine classic from 1972.
