Last night I saw Pop On Trial on BBC4, the usual artists were mentioned such as The Beatles,Rolling Stones,The Who,Small Faces, Jimi Hendrix. But The Hollies were ignored as usual Evil or Very Mad even though they had so many hits in the 1960's. I think this is disgusting The Hollies are so underated by the critics and media even though they are still touring and recording which is something to also celebrate, along with all the hits they have had over the years.

The unfortunate thing is that the Hollies were not really what anyone would deem as 'cutting edge' which would probably make them stand out for inclusion on some of these programmes. Not only the Hollies, but the Kinks were largely overlooked last night despite a couple of brief clips.

Even as a fan in the 80's I never realized just how good the Hollies music was. But I've discovered that as well as pleasing a lot of people with pleasant inoffence, good pop, they were cutting edge, experimental and innovative. It's just that they hide their light so well under a bush that you have to go looking for it. If they had been more loud mouthed and eccentric we would hear more about them in these programs. It really has got little to do with the quality of their music. Which is sad Sad Mad .

Yes, I absolutely agree. They weren't eccentric enough but they were very experimental. Albums like "Evolution", "Butterfly" or "Distant Light" are more experimental than any Stones album and Kinks album. And The Hollies could be experimental and melodic at the same time. Listen to "Would You Believe" from the experimental flower power album "Butterfly". It still is touching for a guy like me who was born long after the Hippie movement. Or what about "Long Dark Road", "A Little Thing Like Love" or "Long Cool Woman" from "Distant Lights". Those songs still rock and are full of soul. If there would be taken just a look at musical creativeness The Hollies would be next to The Beatles on 60s programmes. Very Happy

The Hollies STILL don't get the respect they deserve. Some things never change.

That is why I am angry that The Hollies weren't included in the show, so underated despite huge record sales.

The Hollies have been around for 45 years now which is a lot longer than many other bands/artists and they deserve a lot more recognition than the do/have been getting over the years. I also read in one of my pop music books that during the 60's The Hollies were the most successful band after The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

Some people just wouldn't know talent if it come up and bit them, where The Hollies are concerned anyway. Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil
