Yes, many of you know that this was the name of a paperback book released in the 1960's, which you sometimes see on Ebay at a VERY high price.

Can someone who's actually read this literary gem give us a report - basically what's it about, is there anything in it that Hollies die-hards wouldn't already know, are there photos inside that are worth a look, etc?

Here's a link to someone trying to sell a copy for a hundred bucks that is admittedly in terrible condition.

Thanks.

I think I saw a copy of it on eBay at one time, but I've never read it myself. I wonder just how good it is.

More blatant profiteering on eBay I see!

Hi there, Iīve got two copies of the book, written by Anna Nightingale and with photos by Bruce Fleming. Itīs published 1964 by Daily Mirror Newspapers Ltd.

It starts with an introduction of the boys in the band. You can for instance read that Grahamīs favourite artist is Chuck Berry and Tonys is Barney Kessel (whoīs that?)

Chapter 1 is called Forming a group. Chapter 2 is about instruments and equipment. You can learn that amplifiers range from 5 to 60 watts. The boys gives a lot of ideas on what to buy, what is good, what is bad, etc. Thereīs even a price list on guitars (f.e. Fender Stratocoaster costs 175 GBP).

Tony is explaining the economic benefits from composing your own music. "Donīt forget that you will receive roylaties from sheet music. He says itīs about 3 d per copy! (He must be a rich man today).

In chapter 10 Allanīs tells you that a male shouldnīt be afriad of using make up. He recommends Max Factor Pan Cake, no. 27 or 28, depending on your skin.

There are 8 lovely photos from the Haydock-time.

The book consits of exactly 100 pages. Itīs a music history book!! If You find it, buy it.

Hi Bonus
Sorry everyone slightly off topic. But in answer to your question Barney Kessel Who's that?
Barney Kessel was a jazz guitarst. he played with such artists as Oscar Peterson Trio, Charlie Parker to name a couple. He also became a sesion musician in the 60's and recorded with artists such asThe Monkeys, Beach boys, Phil Spector.

Ray,
thanks for giving the information about Barney Kessel! Then it seems lika Tony was (is) influenced by jazz-musicians.

Another recommendation from the Hollies is to chose an older relative or a local businessman to be your manager. And between 10-15 percent of your earnings should go to the management - not more!

The Hollies did know the business!!
