On what CD's has this track seen a legitimate release? If I ever knew, I've forgotten.

TIA

I have it on CD3 of "The Hollies Special Collection" issued 1997 by EMI. It lasts 5 minutes.

I think it's just the live version on that 3CD set too. I didn't even know there was a studio version! Superb track, both the original and Hollies cover.

Check out the music archive for 1st March 1990, released as a 12 inch and tape single.

I learn something new every day. Geoff can add that onto one of his projected compilations surely!

Maybe that could be another thread 'Clarkey's new words'?

I have only ever seen the 12 inch single/tape version [as Rob says] of the "Studio" version of "Purple Rain", sold at 1990 Hollies concerts.....

So, the consensus is that the studio version of Purple Rain has NEVER appeared on compact disc.

Thanks.

Hi,
I'm lucky I was give a copy of the studio version many years ago, it was just on a made up cd of Hollies songs from the 90's.

I have the studio version on a rare CD called Lost Tracks. It's extremely similar to the live version on the 1993 3-CD anthology. If you've got one, you essentially have both...

Yes, that's about right, Geoff.

I was in Abbey Road for the recording and Alan Coates did play on the record. It sounded great in the studio but the record had far too much echo.

The live performance is much better and seen on stage it was better still. The light show for this song made for quite a spectacle.

Just as an aside, if anyone has the 1991 Tourbook, inside the back cover there is a picture of me taken on the 9th January 1990 on the stairs leading to the studio. It was taken by none other than Mr Bobby Elliott.
