Thjs for the most part was a solid album from start to finish. But because what was POPULAR in america at the time rather BURIED THIS release! 'Any one track could have stood by itself for its musical necessity of embellishments and textures! I know a lot of SPRINGSTEEN fans hated their version of 'SANDY', but I was kick to point out that MR. CLARKE did sound like he was warbling with a bunch of golfballs in his mouth either. There was SO much variety and lyrical adeptness that I still couldnt believe somehow, somwhere fans of the group would eventually come out of the cracks and pull it into the top twenty. Oh Well Thought 'You Gave Me Life' was a superb rocker that def could have been a single w/question. |

AS to the Springsteen reference on Sandy, I told many of the people who thought The Hollies version STUNK that Mr. Springsteens' sounded as if he was warbling with a bunch of GOLFBALLS in his mouth (not Allan's vocal either!) |

As I recall reading somewhere, Springsteen saw the Hollies perform Sandy in concert, and told them that he really liked their version. |

Both The Hollies version and The Boss' original are superb. Springsteen really knows how to craft a story-telling song, a bit like Ray Davies. |

Terry Sylvester once told me the Hollies had an occasion to meet up with The Boss following a concert at the Bottom Line in New York. He did say how much he liked their version of Sandy. |

I rate the "Another Night" LP as OK. Not being a Stringbeen fan, "Sandy" is just alright. Title track is probably the best on the LP, with "Give Me Time", way over in the middle of Side 2, the runnerup for best track. My fave rocker of the bunch would be "Time Machine Jive", which actually got released as an A-side in Holland. The Dutch got it right. |
