Just watched a programme about the political situation in 1973 through the eyes of a then student and 'Curly Billy' was played in the background.
Also worth noting that the BBC has dusted off some classic concerts from 1973 and is showing them this week - Cat Stevens tomorrow night, The Kinks on Thursday then The Eagles on Friday. Must find out how to record from Freeview |

I'm pretty sure that these will be great concerts! Is the Kinks performance one of the "Preservation" concerts with lots of female singers and a brass section? |

It looks like this concert pre-dates Preservation. I just looked up my excellent Kinks book 'All Day And All Of The Night' by Doug Hinman for some info.
The 'In Concert' was recorded on 24 Jan 1973 with the tracks Victoria/Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues/Dedicated Follower Of Fashion/Lola/Holiday/Good Golly Miss Molly/You Really Got Me/All Day And All Of The Night/Waterloo Sunset/The Village Green Preservation Society/Village Green Overture.
Five man Kinks with three-piece Mike Cotton sound on all numbers, but on Waterloo Sunset and VGPS, six-piece brass band and six-person choir.
Shame that there's no 'Celluloid Heroes' but nevertheless an excellent tracklist! |

I've seen "Village Green Preservation Society" from that show and it's a great recording with a good sound although the brass section is a bit too loud but otherwise it's mixed very well. And the tracklist sounds excellent, lot's of interesting choices! |

At least that show didn't concentrate on the then-current RCA material, which was/is limp cheese compared to their UK Pye/US Reprise label material. |

There's still some great stuff in the Preservation/Schoolboys In Disgrace period...can't really dig much of 'A Soap Opera' though. |

Hollies vs. Kinks in the '70s? Hollies win by a mile. They even beat The Stones. |
