Definitely, I reckon it will be Top 20 here. Lots of airplay of the title track and Gilmour and Manzanera were interviewed on Radio 2 and played some acoustic material on Saturday morning. The album has a lot of textures reminiscent of Floyd (no surprise!).

Even better than that, it's at No1 in album charts here! Bet Roger Waters is p*ssed off Laughing

That was 1967. EVERYBODY was writing twee lyrics then, even The Stones (Their Satanic Majesties Request).

'Bike' is particularly twee.

So what exactly is 'boring' about Dark Side and why do you prefer Barrett-era material to anything later?

It was dull back in the early '70s and it still is. Effects-laden, sluggish bluesy rock with no energy or life to it. I'm a "pop" fan, and that album does not satisfy my pop instincts at all. The songs are just not interesting to me. "Money"? That song got old real quick, and that was the hit! Pink Floyd is one of those bands of the '70s, like Led Zeppelin, that fans love and critics hate. Well, I side with the critics. I can, however, get into "Interstellar Overdrive", "See Emily Play", etc. I like '60s psychedelia; Vanilla Fudge, that sort of thing. VF did excellent versions of "You Keep Me Hanging On" and "Take Me For A Little While". Good songs and dynamic arrangements. I do, however, rather like Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell". But things like "Another Brick in the Wall" annoy me like Queen does or any number of bloated '70s arena bands.

If you want a good "bike" song, try "My White Bicycle" by Tomorrow, from 1967.

Queen is another band you don't like? But they are very much "pop" and also very melodic. I've got most of their albums and although they could be a bit over the top sometimes I like most of their songs. And Roger Taylor was also an excellent singer in my opinion.

Getting a long way from the topic but My White Bicycle is on OK song but I sure couldn't take an album of it.

Queen "a bit over the top"? How about way over the top. "Bohemian Rhapsody" gets my vote as one of the worst, most overplayed songs of the '70s. That and "Stairway to Heaven". Awful!

I was listening to some 45s the other day, and I put on "Only You Know and I Know" by Dave Mason. Now there's a classic rock tune that is really fine. Nice vibe to it, excellent guitar playing, good song. I don't know if it gets much play on classic rock stations anymore, but it should.

Here's some David Gilmour tour information:

Apparantly, ALL European shows are sold out!

And, for those on my side of the pond, here's the North American dates (again, claiming 100% sellouts:

Depressing, ain't it Scott? Would love to see a Gilmour gig.
