For me, "Romany" (the US version, with better mastering and a different playing order) remains my favorite Hollies album. No Ron Richards to tell them what to do, this "Produced by The Hollies" album shows what can happen when you let a band make an album on their own terms. As much as I love many of the others, "Romany" is their most artful LP of all. Yes, a double CD of all the Rickfors material is wishful thinking I suppose, but you never know. After all, there is that Terry Sylvester collection that seemed rather unlikely. By the way, "Out on the Road" came out on CD as an excellent boot by Rockin' Beat in Germany.

Yeah, I have the OOTR CD, but the sound could be better. The whole thing needs remastering. Compare I Had A Dream from this CD with that on the boxset. A tremendous difference.

Yes, the sound isn't that great. The original LP sounds much better and fuller, the CD sounds tinny. Even the CD where I copied the vinyl album on sounds better than this Rockin' Beat CD. The sound isn't really bad but with good remastering it could sound a lot better.

The Romany CD-edition that I have for example sounds excellent!

And together with Distant Light, Romany is also my favorite Hollies album!

Although I rate "Romany" as my favorite, the quartet of albums, "Distant Light", "Romany", "Out on The Road" and "Hollies" (1974) form my favorite period for The Hollies. That's when I really got into the band's albums and became a true fan. Before that it was mainly the singles, even though I think I picked up a few of their albums prior to "Distant Light" as cut-outs, back in the days when you could buy a deleted sealed album for $1.98 or something like that.
