Hi one and all,
With a few Hollies over the years can anybody put together a list of their years of service with the band. These would have to be the top 4.

Well Tony and Bobby are 41 years thats a fact.
Allan I would imagine about 35 years
Alan Coates I would think is about 21 years.

OK Exclamation Here we go Razz Going right back to December 62.
Vic Farrell (Steele) 5 Months
Don Rathbone 8 Months
Eric Haydock 3 Years 4 Months
Allan Clarke 37 Years
Tony Hicks 41 Years
Bobby Elliott 41 Years
Graham Nash 6 Years
Bernie Calvert 15 Years
Terry Sylvester 12 Years
Pete Wingfield 4 Years
Peter Arneson 4 Years
Alan Coats 23 Years
Steve Stroud (split service) 8 Years
Paul Bliss 1 Year
Dennis Hainz 5 Years
Ray Stiles (split service) 14 Years
Dave Carey 1 Year (nearly)
Ian Parker 12.5 Years
Carl Wayne 4 Years

Steve Stroud's 8 Years does not include the spring 96 tour when he stood in for Ray Stiles due to a serious leg injury. Neither has this been deducted from Ray's 14 Years.
Paul Bliss's 1 Year does not include his brief return for the spring 91 club dates. Also on these club dates Steve Stroud was not used as the band were experimenting with a keyboard bass which was not a success. Does any one know who played this instrument?

Let me guess, Goran. You come from Sweden so might it be a Swedish artist you are referring to? I wonder who that could be? Laughing

Wow Susie and Gordon, you have both done really well. We have had a lot of members over the 41 years. Gordon some of the guys on your list I don't know. I remember in the late 80's they came here and in the tour book it had a photo of Steve Stroud but from the photos I have of the show it looks more like Ray Stiles. Pity most people don't give enough credit to the lesser known Hollies.
Thanks everyone,
Anthony

Hi Gordon

I hate to tell you this but you made a mistake with Ray's time in The Hollies. He has been in The Band for 19 years not 14. The Hollies came to Australia in 1987 and Ray was in the band along with Alan Coates and Denis Haines and Allan Tony and Bobby of cause and I have a photo from that same year that I cut out of a newspaper and Ray is in the photo. And on Ray's biography on Peej's Hollies site it says that Ray joined in 1985 and that he told her himself.

I see that i forgot to add Eric Haydock and Mikael Rickfors to my list and I have never heard of some of the other people you mentioned.

All The Best

Susie

Hi Susie, I've just dug out the 87 and 88 tour brouchures and in 87 Steve Stroud was still on Bass. In the 88 tour Ray Stiles was on bass but the book only goes into detail about the three originals, so there's no knowing that this tour was Ray's first appearance with the band. Steve by this time was playing in Cliff Richard's band but made a return to the hollies for their 1990 tour and then went back to Cliff Richard. The 1987 World tour is something that has never really been chronicled as is the case with practically everthing else the band has done or not done since 1983. There have been times when someone has stood in for someone IE Bernie Calvert for Eric Haydock in early 66 (before he became a member)
and Jamie Moses standing in for Allan Coats on the 83 Australian tour. So it could be that Ray was "standing in".
If I get a bit of time I'll do a bit more research.
All the best

Hi Gordon,
I think it's about time you wrote that Hollies book, I've seen Steve a few times with Cliff Richard. Funny when I have seen him I think to myself that he has played with the Hollies and I feel I would love to ask him about his time with the band. Then I think I'm here to see Cliff, but anytime you see a Hollie it's special.

In reply to the earlier post by Gordon, The Hollies did indeed use two keyboards at one time. The other guy being Bernie Clarke.

My new website will have a photo gallery containing pics of everyone who has played with the band as a member or stand in wherever I can.

Hopefully be ready just after the end of the tour.

Cheers rob

Hi Gordon Exclamation

I am a bit confused, I understand what Hollies information you have for 1987/88 but I also have info for that era too and it has Rays name on everything I have including the flyer I got out of a newspaper so I think that if Steve Stroud toured with the Hollies on their 87 tour then he must have been a stand in for Ray. Afterall Ray did say he joined the band in 1985. I also went to The Sydney show in 1987 but it is that long ago I can't remember who was playing the bass but I still think it might have been Ray although I could be wrong I suppose.

All The Best
