This is from the Charlotte (North Carolina) Observer, about the death of Terry Sylvester's post-Hollies music partner...

James `Jimmy' Griffin

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - James Arthur "Jimmy" Griffin, who was a founding
member of the 1970s pop group Bread and shared an Oscar for co-
writing "For All We Know," has died of complications from cancer. He
was 61.Griffin, who died Tuesday at his home in Franklin, sang
harmony and played guitar with Bread, whose soft-rock hits
included "Make It With You," "Baby I'm-a Want You" and "Everything I
Own."

"For All We Know," from the movie "Lovers and Other Strangers," won
a 1970 Academy Award and was a hit for The Carpenters. Griffin also
wrote such country hits as Conway Twitty's "Who's Gonna Know" and
Restless Heart's "You Can Depend On Me."

Griffin was raised in Memphis and moved to Hollywood, Calif., in the
early 1960s. He, David Gates and Robb Royer released Bread's debut
album in 1968.

Griffin left the band in 1973 and rejoined in 1976 before it broke
up in a swirl of rancor and lawsuits.

In the 1980s, Griffin formed Black Tie with former Eagles member
Randy Meisner, and he became a regular on the Nashville scene in the
early 1990s with the band the Remingtons. -- ASSOCIATED PRESS

This is very sad news indeed. Some very memorable music produced by Bread and also some great tracks on the Griffin & Sylvester album. Must dig out these albums for another listen.

Yes this is sad news. I have never heard James perform with Terry but I do remember Bread and their music.

Just like our dear Carl, James passed away too young. Sad

My Sincere Condolences go to James's family and of course Terry who has lost a good friend and colleague.

Best Wishes

Susie

Yes, sad news indeed. James Griffin actually toured with the Hollies in 1974. I remember seeing them at the City Hall in Sheffield on that occasion and James opened the show with a selection of Bread songs. I'm not sure but perhaps this 1974 tour was the start of Terry's long association with James?

There's mention somewhere of JG and TS meeting at a music publisher/manager's office... Question
