I have just listened to that album again and I really have to say it's a great great record! Some songs have a country-rock feeling like the beautiful ballad I'm Betting My Life On You and the US mini hit Shadow In The Street. On the more rocking side there is the title track, New Blood and The Man Who Manufactures Daydreams. Another highlight is the poppy Who's Going Out The Backdoor with a melody that sticks in you head forever. In my opinion this album is far better than the Hollies albums Crazy Steal and 5317704. Maybe Clarke saved his best songs for his solo records... Another proof for that is his next solo album Legendary Heroes from 1980 which is even better than this one and miles ahead of the Buddy Holly record!
Best songs: I Wasn't Born Yesterday, I'm Betting My Life On You, The Man Who Manufactures Daydreams, Who's Going Out The Backdoor
Worst song(s): Light Of My Smiles (the verses are good but the chorus is a bit too corny for my tastes)
Rating: 9 out of 10 |

Hi you all.
I think the songs on Allans solo-albums don't fit on a Hollies album. They 're not written for harmony-singing.
Light on my smile isn't that bad. Anyway, I like it. |

We need CD releases of Clarkey's early solo albums. C'mon you know it makes sense! |

Why cd's James?
Albums are much more romantic. I love the covers. Unfortunedly I do't have Headroom and My real name's Arold.
Does anyone wants to sell his albums? |

It's naively simple Susanne - I don't have a record player!!
Besides, I'm expecting loads of bonus tracks, and be able to indulge in 'Clarkeyphilia' in my car when they finally get reissued on CD! |

You're right James.
Lots of people don't have a recordplayer these days. And I don't have a cd-player in my car. First have to buy a new one. Then I suppose I'm gonna find someone who puts all my albums on cd. |

Just buy one of those connector things which fit into the cassette deck and the power source from the fag lighter and plug in your portable CD and your rockin' and rollin'! I think you should be able to fix up an output lead from your record deck and run it into an input aux channel in your hifi and you can tape from records, and probably through a similar record you might be able to save it onto your PC and then burn a CD...I'm sure those in the know will be able to assist... |

Suzanne, just bought the allan clarke double in Zwolle.
I'm thinking about recording the early lp's on cd later this year. I expect a certain software programme that makes it possible to copy records to my computer and from there on to cd on my birthday on december 14th.

I'd imagine that there is such a program, Bert. Happy copying! |

Interesting idea, Bert.
If you got the programme, please let us know.
Do you have all the old records? I guess,I own about 20 oldies, including the well-loved live album.

I have a couple of programs LP Recorder (stores the LP on your hard drive) and LP Ripper (splits it into single tracks) which do just that. You need a lead to connect the record player (amp not just a deck) to the computer, and then some CD burning software. I have used this to get a number of my older LPs onto CD. The software is available from the following link:
