I got it!!

A 1973 TV performance with Terry Sylvester singing Long Cool Woman and Mikael Rickfors singing He Ain't Heavy.

Terry does OK but he struggles a bit in places, he doesn't have the vocal strength to sing it comfortably. It really makes you realise how talented Allan Clarke is. I think Clarke could sing the phonebook and make it harmonious.

Rickfors does a very good job on He Ain't Heavy, though he has trouble singing those three words. Its nice to hear his distinctive voice and pronunciation. He's a powerful singer too. Though for some reason he seems distant from the group, I always get that vibe when I see clips of Eric Haydock too.

All in all a very interesting bit of footage.

HI MIchael

I think I am one of Allan Clarke's most loyal fans and he always had a wonderful voice, but nowadays I don't think he'd be able to hold the harmonies.... unfortunately his voice isn't what it was way back then.... I'll always have a soft spot for him though.... sorry to disagree with you there.

He Ain't Heavy will always be Allan's song though as does Long Cool Woman... noone, in my view has ever matched him on his original versions....

Yeah, I know his voice isn't what it was but I didn't want to refer to him in the past tense, I like him too much for that.

I'm going to but Terry's version of LCW and Mikael's Heavy Ain't Heavy online for folks to hear. I thought the very idea of these alternative versions would sound interesting.
