While it would be great to see that Carl Wayne show released on DVD, I think it would be equally great to see some of those TV concerts from the '70s and earlier. Perhaps, the Carl Wayner concert might be released with some older archival material as a "bonus".
Can anyone here help me list the "major" TV concerts, e.g. where The Hollies did a mid/long live set.
The BBC concert might be the first of these. I wonder if it still exists? Most of The Hollies appearences on Top of The Pops are lost and the BBC has a poor record for keeping these things.
There is a German TV "In Concert" from the mid- 70s. The Hollies are joined by Pete Wingfield and the set is:
I Can't Tell The Bottom From The Top
Another Night
Sandy
Stop Stop Stop
I'm Down
The Air That I Breathe
He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother
Long Cool Woman (a few seconds as the end credits roll)
There is another concert with Pete Wingfield, perhaps it is the Canadian one? Clarke is dressed in white. Setlist (approx.)
Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress
Star
I'm Down
Sandy
Just One Look
He Ain't Heavy
Write On
Carrie Anne
My Island
I might have missed a song here. Can anyone add any other concerts or info?

Hi Micheal. The 69 Golders Green BBC show must still be in the archives as clips of it have been used in the RocknRoll years 1969 and an edition of Pop Quiz which Allan Clarke appered on. I think that was in 94. I believe a bootleg DVD of the Golders Green show was recently available on Ebay. The only other TV special I know of apart from the other two you mention is an Australian one from 71.
All the best

The Hollies also had a German special from 1984 (I think).
Allan, Tony and Bobby were interviewed between each song:
the songs were:
LCW
Bus Stop
He ain't heavy
Stop in the name of love
On a carousel
The Air that I breathe
I got what I want
So you can see there is lots of stuff around, now getting good copies of them is hard. |

Thanks Anthony,
I forgot about Love Is The Thing.
Is your copy of this in colour? Mine has lost it's colour.
Also does yours start abruptly right at the beginning of LCW with all the guys names super-imposed over them as they play? Also, does your copy just cut as they finish My Island?

Hi Anthony. That's right. I've seen the 84 special. Tony was completely scunnered during the interview. I've never heard him being so sarcastic.

Hi Michael,
I have both the shows you mention, the colour and sound are bad on the two specials plus they fiick a lot. It's a real shame as they were great shows. My German show from 84 is far better quality, you are right Gordon, Tony really looks out of it.
Rob how is that Hollies DVD going? we are really in need of something.
bye all,
Anthony |
