Gee, thanks very much for that!

I have the Magic edition of 'Out on the Road', I wondered was it a bootleg, as just as you said, it sounds very muffled in places.

The 'Rock Beat' edition you mentioned sounds excellent!! I'll be searching for that!

Do you think Magic edition 'Hollies', sound wise, is better than EMI version? I have the EMI, the bonus travks on Magic looked good to me and I thought of getting that one; but as I have 'Out on the Road' - are the three bonus on 'Hollies' in better sounding quality than the 'Out on the Road' CD?

to me the bonus tracks do sound rather better on Magic records; 'Hollies' (1974) than on the 'muffled' Magic remaster of the 1973 'Out on The Road' album - you get FOUR tracks from that second 'Rickfors Hollies' 1973 album in all - the three you mentioned plus 'Out on The Road' (first version) as well

the Magic releases tend to sound a bit louder than the EMI ones, as to whether they are 'better' it's arguable - some fans think NOT !

the key thing for me is the EMI version has the songs in the correct UK vinyl album original running order - the ONLY version on CD to do that
- even the version in the earlier UK Hollies 'originals' box set had incorrectly got the overseas running order rather than the original British album version order.

you do get ten bonus tracks on the Magic version, tho' mixing up four songs of the Rickfors era with later Clarke era tracks too - I tend to prefer to keep the various 'Hollies eras' in their chronological order, which I find is more consistant

The 'Rock in Beat' version of 'Out On The Road' (released in Germany) had two versions, the first was under the title: 'The Hollies Rarities vol 3' and later; 'The Mikael Rickfors Years' - (both were 'unofficial') they were numbered RB 008 and later RB 2013 respectively, but will possibly now prove hard to track down (and maybe quite expensive!!)

Finally got round to check the sound quality of the Magic release of Hollies 1974. I have no problem with the sound, and I doubt that I would be able to tell the difference if blind tested.

Many thanks Knut and Gee,

I was listening again to 'Hollies' last night, it's a grower for sure. Not as good methinks as the first few albums of the 70s, and arguably for me 'Russian Roulette' I'd maybe prefer more, but, it does have some very good stuff.

After a few weeks of giving it some spins, I must say the 1974 "Hollies" is damn good; some wonderful tracks!

A very worthy addition to their catalogue, and another fine 70s album from the lads.

So many great albums; this past week my two albums of choice both self titled Hollies; 1965, and 1974 - both great
